What do you guys think about JPS 21 for $140? Can't decide whether to buy or wait for all the good things coming out later this fall

That is a very high price. It can be found for around $110 in other places. My only thing about 21 is that its jefferson juice and not Stitzel Weller juice that is much more desirable. If you are just looking at it from a price stand point all retail you could purchase two bottles of stagg for $140 retail. Stagg blows the doors off compared to JPS 21. If you want JPS look for 17 or 18 which are two that wont be made again.

And I've yet to hear what exactly "Jefferson's juice" actually is. I wouldn't touch the 21 - they're riding on the coattails of the 17 & 18.

I recently cracked open my first bottle of 18 and can't stop myself from drinking it. Every day is a celebration, I suppose.

"Jefferson's juice"

"Jefferson’s is a non-distiller producer that has done some pretty creative things with their procurements, but this one is pretty straight laced. No antique barrels from famed distilleries, no special tasting grain, no, not aged in space. The age is the only characteristic that is impressive on paper. It is marked a 21 year but it contains barrels as old as 24 years. This is a straight forward, traditional mash bill, aged, and then the barrels are picked out by Zoeller and he blends them to a flavor profile he thinks is worthy of his already impressive portfolio of blends. There is no leaning on other heritages with this one, as the other JPS’ had some type of exceptionality to them; some were wheated, one was aged on the ocean, the wheaters were procured from some of the last remaining Stitzel-Weller barrels on the planet."

"Jefferson’s Presidential Select 18 is one of the last 100% Stitzel-Weller bourbons you can buy. Sitzel-Weller is the distillery that made highly regarded wheat-recipe bourbon until it was closed in 1991, including the notoriously difficult-to-find Pappy Van Winkle Family Reserve, which uses the same mash bill recipe. (Reports are the distillery began production of bourbon again earlier this year, but it will be a while before that production hits the market.)

These days, Pappy Van Winkle may still use 100% Stitzel-Weller bourbon for its oldest bourbons (20 and 23, as of 2011), but the younger varieties use bourbon made at Buffalo Trace. Jefferson’s Presidential Select 18 (which was preceded by a 17 year variety, and will be followed by a 21) is 100% Stitzel-Weller. It’s also all sold out, although you may find some on a few shelves.

In other words, it’s rare and old (18 years is very old for bourbon, even if it is only slightly past middle-age for scotch). But being very old and rare doesn’t do much for me, unless it’s also very good. And the 94-proof spirit has that too."

You know before a good friend of mine turned me and the wife onto good bourbon all we really drank was crown or sometimes makers mark. We really liked crown...then after trying the vast selection of other good stuff for several months we tried crown again and was like why on earth did we drink this stuff. The wife doesn't drink too much bourbon (she prefers martinis or wine) but for her to say that it means a lot. With that said the crown xr is really good I think. The red box ones are no longer around and I think the blues will run out too. I kinda have them for a collecting standpoint I guess. Not that its the greatest ever...but there are TONs of people that drink and love crown...very well known. But...they may get drank one day too like the rest of it lol.

Stag and wlw are some of my atf so no chance in me ever giving those up, sorry guys. Matter of fact one stagg wlw and pappy 15 have a death sentence already...I go to grand isle every year for fishing with the friend that got me hooked on bourbon and some of his friends. Those 3 bottles will not return lol. Our families went to Florida this year too and him and I killed a wlw and pappy 20.

Thanks for the compliments...that was the first time I had all my bottles together. After having them spread out on the table...I thought...I need to pick these up before the wife gives me the wtf look lol.

The fish tank is 375 gallons of freshwater cichlids...equipped with a 4" drink ledge for when im working on it or looking at the fish.

NOLAGT...You've got 5 Pappy 15's and only 4 Pappy 20's. Wouldn't you rather have 5 Pappy 20's and 4 Pappy 15's? I have 2 Pappy 20's and 0 Pappy 15's. Let's make a deal!

But you see there is a method to the madness. One of the 15s is going to be empty come mid September. That leaves 4 of each year...and the plan is to sip on a mix of all 3 years until they are empty. Then I crack another set open and repeat.

Same for the stagg and wlw. One stagg is on its last leg...and one stagg and wlw will die with the 15 leaving 3 of each. Ill consume them like the pappys. I got it all figured out right lol

If im lucky enough to find BTAC bottles in the fall I plan on buying enough to last the year for sure. I'll buy multiple bottles of Stagg and ER17 if i can find them.

This is the greatest obstacle. I placed a call to the one distributor connection I have in BR and he told me that about 1/3 of the bottles actual shipped to the local distributor make it to shelves. He said that reps claim them starting 6 month in advance. I offered cash and he still said he couldnt help.

I've tried on the BX as well. Nobody wants to trade up or down for a Pappy 15 or 23. I think Pappy 20 is the best of the 3 but maybe I am wrong.

I never had first hand knowledge of that happening but I was certain it would go on. One would almost be a fool not to if your allowed to do so.
