Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it is supposed to come out at least a couple times a year. The bottle I just opened is 137 proof and I think that is the 3rd release.

On glass 2 of ECBP right now. Better slow down.

Sadly, I've yet to see it (ECBP) in my neck of the woods (Jax, Fl).

I couldn't find it here (New Orleans) either. I had to find it at an online store.

I saw one bottle at Dorignacs for $70. I passed on it and got the Parkers Heritage. Glad I did as it is now one of my faves

Had some of this little guy last night...

Overall, I thought it was pretty meh. The vanilla and caramel flavors were there, but not enough wood to balance it out. Also not much of a finish, it was there then it was gone.

On a positive note, page 200!

Getting a handle on the Primo I see. How are you liking it?

I'm likening it a lot. May skip the gasser in my new house. The ribs were good...not perfect...but good for my first time ever grilling ribs. I usualy do them in the oven. These had a better flavor tho. I'll start trying out some wood to add some smoke flavor.

I have only had the 14...I'll be getting a 9 in a week or so and I plan to do a side by side.

I tested the 9 at Martins but not the 14. The girl said she preferred it over the 14. Had a great nose and taste, with enough burn at the end to know you were drinking neat 100+ proof. I liked it enough to get a bottle. Bringing it to Thanksgiving dinner and plan on trying it neat after sitting, a little water and then some ice to see how it opens up.

Don't know how that would work, since it's still illegal to really do what the bx is about.

I'm guessing there are a ton of factors involved, but can anyone ballpark for me what it would cost to do a barrel pick?

quote:

A barrel of Jack: Arguably America’s most recognized whiskey, Jack Daniel’s is one of the few distilleries that allow you to buy by the barrel. A barrel of Jack will set you back anywhere between $9,000 and $12,000 (equivalent to some $40 or $50 per bottle), so you might want to split it with friends. Why no fixed price? Because it all depends on the ‘angels’ share,’ the term used to refer to the liquid that evaporates as the spirit ages.

If you’re going invest in an entire barrel, you may as well splurge on a trip down to Lynchburg, Tennessee to select it. You’ll get to meet with Master Distiller Jeff Arnett, who will help you pick a barrel that best suits your taste. If you can’t make the trip, he’ll happily choose one for you. Once your barrel has been selected and bottled, you can expect to receive about 250 hand-bottled decanters, each displaying the individual barrel number it came from, the date it was bottled and a medallion proclaiming it yours. You also get to keep the actual barrel as a trophy.

A barrel of bourbon: To buy a barrel of Four Roses bourbon, the first thing you’ll need is a licensed retailer to act as a middleman. (It’s the same deal with Jack Daniel’s and other distilleries that sell by the barrel.) Of course, the good folks at Four Roses can always help you find a local retail connection, if necessary. Master Distiller Jim Rutledge will help you hand pick your bottle, but only after much sampling. You’ll taste your way through more than a dozen pre-selected barrels that Jim sets aside before you arrive. (If you can’t make it to Kentucky, the distillery will send you samples.)

Once you’ve narrowed it down to your favorite, simply sign your barrel and head home knowing that a ton of bourbon is headed your way. The bottles will arrive with a special label that identifies the bourbon as hand-picked and hand-bottled. You’ll also get the barrel, which you can use for anything from a side table to a badass planter.

if a barrel of jack ranges from 9k-12k, how much is a barrel of the good stuff? ie 4r or a bt product?

Probably less. That Jack barrel is for their single barrel stuff which has an extremely high retail price. About twice what BT goes for.

Also: what is this New BX you all speak of?
