Are Amazon or Academy my best options? I am looking to buy one to hook up to the natural gas stub in the rear of my house.

like anything else you can spend as much or as little as you want. academy will definitely have burners and pots

or you could go to goodwood hardware and empty out your wallet

The burner has to have the correct jets to run natural gas and they are different than propane. Not sure if Academy has these. Good wood, Shenandoah Hardware, Lamendolas.

My FIL tried it in his outdoor kitchen and ended up going back to propane tanks because you'll be there all day with jet burners.

Damn that's a great idea. I I've got an outlet in the back ans never thought about using it. I also have a 240 back there. No clue why.

Maybe the previous owner did a little welding?

I have a Natural Gas Burner, it has 32 jets. I do a little metal fab work so I just bought a $20 burner from Wal-Mart and retrofited it, by the time I would have bought material and assembled it I came out ahead just doing that. My hose going to the burner is 3/4", that's important. Your only talking about 4 ounces of pressure so you need a lot of it. It takes about 30 minutes to bring my pot to a roiling boil but I have 100 quart pot and put more water than most people. I bought my burner in Raceland at Sugarland Hardware but you can get it from Amazon. When you buy burner make sure you tell you need it for natural gas and not propane. The orifices in the nozzles are different sizes.

As far a pot goes I'd order a 100 quart from Webstaurant store or Amazon. Or spend a litte and get a rocket pot, I'll buy that when my Academy one finally craps out. It's bent, beat and battered but it's still boiling.

I had some pics of my burner on Photbucket, I can try to repost them later if youd like.

Possibly the original owner. Could be right, didn't think of that as an option. Really odd place to have that outlet it seemed like.

When I was a kid in the 70's, you couldn't buy a propane rig - you'd have to make it yourself. My dad converted a banjo-style burner he salvaged from a hot water heater to boil crawfish we caught in the Spillway. He tapped into the natural gas line next to a space heater on our back porch. I'm sure it took a while to get the water back to a boil, but we got it to work fine.

When I built this last house I put two gas lines on different sides of the house with a ballcock valve and quick connect. I have a jet burner with I think 30 or so and I can boil water if not as fast as propane pretty much close to it. When done I just roll the hose up and zip tie it to the burner to store.

I have a couple natural gas hook-ups out back, but I went with propane tanks and a setup from Sams for crawfish.

It takes special equipment for natural gas. I found a south LA place that made a bayou boiler or such that runs on natural, but they never replied to my email saying I wanted to buy one. Went to Sams and knocked it out.

It also gives me another fuel source for the apocalypse when Arkla goes down.
