Looking at a lot of reviewsbonline amd watching videos. Never knew that it was so versatile. Is it a good buy?

Yes, a forever pit and very versatile. I do not own the gas assist version. Just need a chimney, wadded up paper and a match.

I have the gas assist model and it worth the extra money imo. I use that gas assist to light all my charcoal and it works like a charm.

I've had a Weber Master-Touch 22 in. for a few years. They go for about $200. No table and such like the Performer, but it's a similar grill.
Love it. It's the main item I use for outdoor cooking.

Can't go wrong with a weber kettle. I have a basic 22". Does almost anything I throw at it.
As for the gas start vs chimney, I like the chimney. Personal preference. More "moving" parts = more places for failure. A chimney and oily paper towel work every time for me.

I'm going on the 4th decade with a 22" weber. Upgraded 3 yrs ago to one with an aluminum ash catcher and thermometer. Bricks separate the coal grate in half, with coal and wood chips on one side, and meat above the other side. I can hold 225F pretty well with plenty of smoke. They last forever.

The 22" Webber kettle is one of my favorite possessions.

I've had my gas assist for 10 years and it still works great every time. Been well worth the extra cost.
