I have also been looking for an excuse to buy a bottle of Grange. I love everything Penfolds does.

I try not to be judgmental about wine. It’s hard not to though when I hear someone say their favorite wine is Caymus though

I would love to drink a Grange. If I spent 700 on one bottle of wine my wife would LITERALLY murder me

I only get judgmental if someone tries to act like they're some big wine fan or knows about wine just because they drink something like caymus or prisoner. I'm like, congrats, marketing worked on you, it's not like you're some wine expert because you drink popular trash wine.

I would see people come in and buy caymus or silver oak or daou by the case and brag about it. I would just be watching and thinking that money clearly doesn't buy taste.

Don't get me started on Daou. They are marketing geniuses I will give them that.

They just sold for a BILLION dollars based purely on their marketing and image.

Steering "Caymus" clients/friends/business associates over to something I like better is a game I play regularly

Successfully getting our table to switch to multiple bottles of Chateau Musar was one of my biggest personal victories

I'm trying to slowly desensitize mine. We have pretty much come to the understanding that I won't have a bunch of other expensive hobbies if I can have my wine.

I bought a bottle of opus one a few weeks back and she said nothing so I think it's working :fingerscrossed:

Did you see that Wine Spectator just rated that Brunello #1 wine in the world for 2023?

yep, the 2018 vintage. they've been a favorite of mine for awhile so it's good they're getting recognized. got that bottle at the winery in 2021. they have an absolutely gorgeous place just outside of montalcino.

Edit: it was actually the $60-70 one that won and you can get it stateside pretty easily. it's a fantastic bottle, especially for the price.

I think most Daou wines are meh but the newer one (at least to me?) I really like is The Bodyguard 2020 vintage which is a Petit Sirah/Petit Verdot blend.

Have not had it. I just don’t gravitate to any Daou product. Most wines I am buying to drink are between 20-40 dollar weekend drinkers and I try to search for high QPR.

the non confunditur is solid too for less than half the price. blend of cab, merlot, and sangiovese. their higher tier, Solengo, adds a bit of petit verdot and is arguably my favorite super Tuscan.

Well, I’m typically with you. They hide the Daou logo. It’s very tiny on the back. I bought it at $38. It’s pretty good.

I have a few bottles of Sassicaia and Ornellaia I’m sitting on. Bought the 2010 Sassicaia under $250. It’s gone up quite a bit.

I'm forever in your debt for recommending that place. we stayed about a 5 minute walk from it, and it's the best place I've ever been. the people there were as amazing as the wine.

Edit: montalcino was a dream. I want to move there tbh
