I have the burners set as low as possible. The flames come up from underneath the shields, reach up to food and burn/char it. Very aggravating

Seems like a regulator or burner issue. Is it happening on all the burners? Weber customer service will fix it for you. Call them...

Have you cleaned the pan below the burners. I have a Spirit 3 and if that pan is dirty with grease droppings it will ignite and cause flare ups. It’s imperative to clean it before each use.

I’m referring to the large pan that covers the whole underneath and slides out, not the small drip pan.
