Frozen? That does not even make sense.

Yes. I can't tell you any more than that.

Dim Sum off of Airline definitely microwaves food and heats up frozen dishes

because in no way do I believe Chilis, Applebees, Olive Garden etc are making anything "from scratch". It would be impossible for them to keep the product consistent throughout their locations if they did.

When that ownership group wanted to take over Olive Garden a year or so ago, one of the things they complained about was that all the soups at the restaurant are made from scratch. They said it was a waste of time, because no one gave Olive Garden credit for making soup from scratch -- they would be better off using a soup base from an outside supplier and either eliminating the soupmaker position or have that employee do another kitchen task.

I ate a steak at Applebee's once for the hell of it and it was the worst steak I've ever eaten. definitely not cooked to order

Does anyone really think most chain restaurants just throw frozen food in a microwave?

I was looking for something quick dinner late one evening after a business meeting in Lafayette and hit Cracker Barrel. I ordered baked chicken and it looked great when served, but when I cut into the beast it was still frozen frozen. Certainly changed my understanding of how chain restaurants operate.

What do you think they have a bunch of cooked steaks they just reheat?

Well if the person on Reddit was telling the truth, then yes ..

quote:

I used to be a waitress at Applebees. Whenever someone wanted to order a "medium rare" steak, and I had to say we only make them "pink" or "no pink." That's because most of the kitchen is a row of microwaves. The steaks were cooked on a stove top, but then microwaved to death. Pink or no pink only referred to how microwaved to death you want your meat.

I have no idea. I have never been to Applebees in my memory. I am sure I went to one as a young child at some point, but otherwise.. no clue.

Okay I don't care. I was just pointing out what I read earlier. I said "if the person is telling the truth". I wasn't making some grand proclamation.

you don't care, yet you've posted the same quote twice like it has some confirmed factual basis.

I can say for a fact the pink or no pink is bullshite. I've never been to a restaurant that has asked me "pink or no pink." that's just absurd.

Please don't ever question why you're so disliked.

I said "if the person is telling the truth". I was just continuing conversation. The last thing I was aiming to do was proclaim anything was truth. I only posted it earlier because I was letting OP know the topic can be searched.

And as Jones pointed out to me just now, the person might have been saying that is what they were instructed to tell the kitchen after they took the order. Like, customer says "med rare" so employee tells kitchen "pink". I have no idea.

Your attitude is shite sometimes. And you know that I don't hate you, so imagine what the people who do think. I mean shite dude

I've been told by a Chinese restaurant owner that 90% of her competitors buy their egg rolls frozen.

I've worked in several Chinese restaurants when I was a teenager. Everyone I worked at bought the mix from the distributor and made them once a week. just add shrimp or pork to the mix and wrap them up.

don't be so dramatic, jeez. I'm just saying I had a bloody red rare steak at Applebee's two months ago, so in my experience, the pink or no pink is bullshite.

How is laughing at your poo attitude dramatic? Always your go-to when I call you out

FWIW, I imagine if the pink thing was true, it wouldn't apply for someone who asks for rare. I imagine they would do pink for med-rare and med. No pink for anything beyond that.

Again, no idea. I didn't even know Applebees did steaks beyond a sirloin on the menu that a lot of lower end chains offer.

that's being dramatic. it's a conversation about Applebee's for Christ sake

they have shite cuts that they cover in sauce to mask the shittyness. one comes with a Parmesan sauce and shrimp on top for instance.
