There are people that like Pitbull, and there are people that like Tom Waits. There are people that like Red Lobster, and people that cook fresh speckled trout almandine. There are people that drink old crow, and people that consider Macallan 18 to be midlevel scotch. Just how life goes

Interesting that your post contains both of these things, as there's a Tom Waits song in which he sings "Came home last night / full a fifth of Old Crow."

Okay, how about this. Sam Adams uses more hops than any beer in the western hemisphere that is consumed by more than 14 people annually.
I've heard they have recently added more hops to it.

Sam Adams is mediocre on about half their stuff. I haven't had one particular one that wowed me. I'd say my favorite would have to be the cherry wheat.
As far as hoppiness their IPAs really suck. They got left behind in the craft beer scene. I'm sure they produce some good smaller batch brews locally but I prefer to stay away from them.

Jim Koch got his panties in a wad over this.

What is the attraction to light beer?
There are several attractions to American light beers:
(1) For a long time there wasn't much variety in American beers, so if you're over 45 you may just keep on drinking what you drank in your 'formative' years of low-grade alcoholism (my dad)
(2) I feel Bud Light is the perfect beer for those mornings and say "You know what, it's 8:43AM and I feel like drinking all day" - especially on the beach/camping/tailgating. This is much cheaper and less deadly than pulling that same stunt with a Belgian beer.
(3) Drinking games - requires beers that are salvageable enough to drink, yet not so tasty that you feel bad when half of it ends up on the ground. A perfect role for the cheap American light beer.
(4) Readily available in cans, which can be critical for high-volume outdoor drinking.
(5) It's tasteless, so very few people flat out 'hate' it. So it's a safe bet to throw in the cooler for a group of people to get drunk off of.

I love good Stouts and Porters, but they're impossible to drink when trying to lose weight.
Color of a beer doesn't equate to more calories. Guinness is actually one of the lowest caloric beers out there.
What racks up the calories is the residual sugars left in the beer. So high alcohol beers, or overly sweet beers will typically be higher caloric wise, than low abv or dry beers.

people who are judgmental about the type of beer they or other people drink are boring little bitches.
Why is someone who is judgemental of the beer they themselves are drinking, considered snobby?
That would be akin to saying that anyone who critics the food they eat is a "boring little bitch".
