I generally love Oxo products, and I've had (and worn out) their can opener. But I much prefer the Kuhn Rikon can opener. $20 or so, easy to use, and leaves smooth edges.

I used that exact kuhn rikon for years until I found metal shavings in my food. Threw it away and went to buy another one, then saw dozens of reviews of metal shavings left behind. As long as you inspect the can edges, you should be fine.

Got a Kitchen-Aid can opener for a wedding present 16 years ago, and it finally wore out last year, I think. Definitely worth the $15 investment.
