I'll start with a few

The Hurricane at Pat O's
The Sazerac at the Roosevelt Hotel
BBQ Shrimp at Pascal's Manale
Banana's Foster at Brennan's

What are y'alls favorite food and drinks from New Orleans?

eta: I'm thinking original dishes only. Not foods that come from other places that New Orleans just does better.

I know they "created" it, but their BBQ shrimp are awful.

Doesn't count. Founded in Arabi so not Orleans Parish.

Do you have any specific locations that are associated with those? I'd be interested to know where they come from specifically.

Oyster's Rockefeller - Antoine's invented it.

Original french fry po'boy w/ debris - Can't really be traced but any place in Nola with a good roast beef will have a good potato po'boy. I like Parasols and Liuzza's.

The sno-ball - Hansen's. That family invented it in the 30's.

While they're my favorite beignet anywhere in the world. Cafe Du Monde didn't invent the beignet did they? What I meant in my OP were original dishes. Not just dishes created elsewhere that New Orleans does better, because that list could go on for a while

I know there's some contention but I've always understood Banana's Foster to have come from Commander's.

I don't think there's any contention. Brennan's invented it.

I saw a story recently that the Brennan family had some interest in the banana companies, so it was a natural. Named after a regular customer (that may have also been involved in bananas).

It was named after the Chief of Police and they were throwing him a party and wanted a brand new desert to unveil. There was a shite ton of bananas sitting in port that needed to be eaten and so they created the Banana's Foster.

ETA: I'm wrong. It was named after Richard Foster who was the chairman of the New Orleans Crime Commission

If you travel the world, you will find that bananas foster, oysters Rockefeller, the Sazerac, and the Vieux Carre can be found everywhere and are all held with great reverence.

The sazerac is number one, of course...only Jazz eclipses it as our biggest export to the world.

Yes, they had an abundance of bananas and created it for a party for him.
