If BRQ can stay busy selling bbq, then good for them.

Definitely a niche, $15-$20 lunch, a heavy meal to boot that would make me want to sleep all afternoon. Not my cup of tea.

sounds mostly positive on here and the reviews I can find online. Can't wait to try it when I get back in town Monday

I think the more interesting food is outside the BBQ but I've had Justin's que before and it was damn good. How's the bar doing for those who've been? besides the beer selection I mean...was the bar busy?

also I did speak to one of the partners today and they say they've been surprised in a good way about how busy it's been. I'm sure they'll get calibrated in a week or so to how to staff/cook/etc. if the beer menu does suck I will absolutely get that message to them, it's too easy now to stock good beer

this was on their instagram

Biggest issue will be their Manager training, which is non existent like most local BR restaurants. They will do great for 3 months then we will see the true colors after the newness wears off. If they don't step up their service training it will bleed money.

$9.99 + $2.50 (drink)= $12.49

$12.49 X (10% Tax) = $13.74

$13.74 + $2.50 (20% tip on pre-tax total) = $16.24

That's lunch for one.

I'm not knocking BRQ, but I'm pretty sure this is on the higher end for lunch specials in Baton Rouge. Frankly, I think their prices are in line for the level of service they are trying to offer.

I could say more about this, but I don't want to rock the boat and make waves.

But I will add, based on some complaints I've read here and elsewhere, that BRQ shouldn't change anything at this point. They should wait at least a month to get enough feedback from the customers and enough sales data before making any changes.

Went last night. For a just opened restaurant, it went well. Food was good, service went surprisingly well considering there age and the amount of business they had. It was slow but that was understood going in. I had St. louis ribs and the wife had Brisket and smoked sausage. Ribs were legit, left your teeth marks in the meat with each bite and did not fall off the bone. Brisket was a tad undercooked but had good flavor. Vinegar sauce was the star of the sauces in my opinion but they need a different way to disperse them. It must be difficult to keep a dishwasher employed with all of the ramekins.
Place is great, layout is well done. I'll be back.

I completely agree, price comment wasn't a knock on you. I feel most people order waters to avoid drink prices most times anyway. Need a bigger sample size before any large scale changes. Great atmosphere and concept. I think things will improve with time and experience.

Where the frick are you people eating where $9.99 is on the higher end? Seriously. A combo meal at Wendy's is almost that.

Jane, you ignorant slut. Lunch specials at full-service restaurants is like the dollar menu at fast food restaurants.

I'm going to join in on the counter side to the prices being high. One of the cheapest lunches I have is a three item meal (two papusas and a tamale) at La Salvadorena. That's $2.50 a piece, and I drink water. Add tax, and we're just over $8. And I brag on them to everyone about being one of the best values in town.

I'm not sure whether people are eating if they routinely sit down for lunch and expect to pay less than $10-$15. Can it be done? Sure. But you're limiting yourself fairly substantially. And if you think you're going to pull that off with a plate full of meat, good luck on the quality.

Y'all mostly like Merchant, Curbside, Olive or Twist.. All of which serve specials at around $10. Hell, I think Chimes charges that for their spinach dip.

Their beer menu is not as bad as some make it sound. It's not great but if they rotate Envie and keep it fresh, I am satisfied. It never was advertised as a craft beer haven. I am disappointed greatly in a lack of taps and lack of fountain drinks, though.

Sitting on their porch now. Beer menu isn't terrible. If this website had an upload function, I would post a picture...

beer taps didn't work with the layout we had to design around, we were right up to the property line on both sides and the building couldn't go any wider. If the demand for draft beer is overwhelming we roughed in a spot for a kegerator but that would just be a couple of taps

hopefully the can selection winds up being good enough for most

While I'm generally a bit of a hop head, IPAs aren't my beer of choice with BBQ. Being those are the primary drivers of the draft/fresh push, the lack of taps isn't the end of the world. Had a Ballast Point Victory at Sea out of the bottle which paired extremely well. As long as you have some solid porters/stouts available, I think your beer list will be fine.
