I make steaks for the future in laws quite a bit. 4 of them come out MR and the last is MW. The ruined one is my future F.I.L.'s request which he then covers in ketchup. I just shake my head at him the entire time while the M.I.L. and fiance laugh.

I can't believe you started a thread to advertise that you have shite taste in steaks.

Rare is my go-to. It's just so tasty. That being said, I don't cull much. I'll eat it Blue and I'll eat it well done (although I'll complain about the latter).

This is something that irritates me really bad. Maybe I'm just an a-hole, but I just hate seeing a good steak ruined. I refuse to keep A1 or any other garbage in my house.

Medium rare at most.

I may be more alone on this than the steak, but the best burger is medium rare as well.

I agree but if he pays for the steaks then I'm grilling them how he wants it. I'm tempted to just start cooking it the correct way and force him to eat it. I tried it once and you could tell he didn't enjoy it.

At fine restaurants I usually order it rare + you should try it. It is between medium rare and rare.

I agree with the burger thing but because it is ground meat you have to cook it through. I go medium with burgers.

Steaks
Filet=MR
NY Strip=MR/M
Ribeye=M (if the cut is thick) nest way to get that marbled fat to melt.
T-Bone/Porter= I cook the two sides according to my earlier standards.

medium-rare to medium for me and my brothers and dad well done for my mom, like keep that shite on the grill til it's charred leather and then is dowsed in a-1, makes me cringe every time we have a family steak night.

During baseball season - I like to throw my room-temp, marinated steak on a searing hot grill pan at the start of the 7th inning stretch. If my steak isn't off the grill pan by the time play resumes - It's overcooked.

Here's the "victory" steak I whipped up as the Rangers clinched the 2010 ALCS...

THAT is a perfect steak.

(FWIW - Rosemary potatoes and green beans were sauteed' during a pitching change and set aside an inning prior)

Medium Rare or Rare, anything else is wasting a steak, but then again, anyone who eats anything above medium prolly got their shite from wal mart anyways so they are wasting crappy meat

A steakhouse I once went to in texas had the following on the menu:

Rare: bloody in the middle
Medium Rare: dark red and warm
Medium: Pink
Medium Well: getting a little burnt
Well: Burnt

Anybody who gets a steak well done should just not eat the steak. These are the same assholes who send it back because they don't like it. Stay at Golden Corral and eat your cotton candy. For me it is medium rare.
