I can't stand these sneaky bastards. You bite into a bit of soft food and all of a sudden, "Crunch, crunch, crunch."

I really can't find any taste to them so they must be there for the crunch.

that's what i was thinking. i don't mind them in food because i've never really noticed a taste, good or bad....just a crunch.

It is odd because normally crunchy veggies make me cringe. I hate raw celery and onions, but I love water chestnuts.
They probably are pretty bland on their own but when mixed with a sauce in stir fry, they absorb the sauce and taste great.
