I will be in Ville Platte next week and looking for a few good restaurants. Give me the top spots in the surrounding areas.

TIA

Is the Pigstand still open? An alternative is to eat like a native...get a link of boudin, half pound of cracklings , and a six pack for lunch and/or dinner.

Also, see if the Jungle is open.

My one trip to the Pigstand was terrible...sorry excuse for BBQ, overly sauced and tough. Dunno if anything's changed in recent years; it was bad enough to make me never go back. Try Cafe Lasalle or the Frosty Inn burgers.

been a few years but it was still open as of 2009/2010 time frame. almost always my go-to option when i'm visiting in the area. old man Vedder flipped burgers there many, many moons ago.

Pig Stand is closed. The Rendezvous (the old Jungle dinner club on the west end of town) is open for lunch & dinner. Lunch has a Cajun buffet & some menu items, dinner is a full menu of steak & seafood. There's a new pizza place on main st & Cafe de LaSalle is also a good lunch spot with a buffet. Hamburger would have to be Frosty Inn or David & LORI's in Mamou- which would put you in close proximity to T-Boys where you can pick up the BEST boudin in Louisiana & some great smoked & stuffed meats & sausage (boneless crawfish stuffed fryer & Tasso roast are AWESOME). Leroy's meat market also has good plate lunches. About 20 minutes out of VP in Washington is the Steamboat & they serve excellent steak & seafood. Other than that be nice to some ol' Cajun lady you meet & she'll probably invite you for dinner!

He used to yell at us in the dining room through that little window at the grill.. when we would get too loud after the Friday night football games.

So you've taken to lurking the WFDT thread while I have to do all the heavy lifting? Is that the way it's going to be?

True story...when I was much younger, I was working in Laffy and on the way home I detoured through VP to hit my favorite markets. I had boudin from one joint, cracklings from another, and assorted sausages and tasso from yet another place. I'd gotten a few heavy Buds to wash down the crackilings and boudin, none of which I'd had in quite a while. Overcome with hunger, excitement, and a strong thurst, by the time I got two miles out of town heading to I 49, I'd eaten a pound and aa extra stick of boudin, most of a half pound of the cracklings, and was on my third beer...stomach begin to fight back and I had to pull off the road, get out and walk around, and breathe like a woman in labor for about five minutes to keep it all down.

New restaurant is Nick's on Main. No cajun food but pizza and sandwiches are good. Not open on Monday's.

Are we talking about Verlin? (I think that's how he spelled his name. Pardon if incorrect.)

He'd answer the phone, "Pig STAND!! After you'd give him your order, he'd hang up the phone with a BANG!!
