Actually, the prices on that menu you posted are higher than they were the last time I went. Poorman's Special was $4 or $4.50 I believe.

I doubt they increased the prices even higher than that but then again I haven't been since pre-Covid

i looked it up the other day, found a menu from a month ago. Prices have risen but only like $1 or two, which is to be expected these days.

The $22 a plate story is a load of bull shite

Price increases suck, but I tell ya Don is a good guy with happy employee's. His Monday red beans are a go to of mine. Somehow I have never been to stockyard, and shall rectify that post haste.

During Covid Calvin’s stopped hot food service due to staffing, not sure if they are back doing it again or not

Gas station on Oneal and Old Hammond has a good fish and red bean option (for a gas station). Fish is on point, simply done right. Red beans aren't a classic homemade style but taste good enough for lunch.

This place is legit.

Has great grits for breakfast as well.

Tony’s Seafood. It’s worth the road trip to the ghetto

Tony’s Seafood

I like the lunches at Tony's overall. Strangely, the thing I like least is their fried catfish. I find it to be a little too salty/overseasoned. I don't really care for their boudin links, either. Everything else is very good.

Someone should open a Cajun Plate restaurant and serve nothing but rice and gravies and sides. And boudin balls. Would crush

The pork roast lunch at Pot and Paddle is legit and cheap.
