Although there are some exceptions. I find Japanese food generally dull. Of the asian cuisines, Japanese is the most boring and flavorless.

Luvi is great. It is not sushi.

Coincidentally I had the exact same lunch at Shogun today. Very filling, only complaint is that the rice had a weird sweetness.

Keep these coming TL, nice change of pace from the usual posts.

And Daiwa is better than Shogun.

Japanese cuisine is about quality ingredients. Find better places to eat.

I can guarantee you'll never eat anything like a fresh (as in an brought in an hour ago) slice of bluefin belly.

I’ve had fresh bluefin a few times and wasn’t impressed. I prefer salmon to any tuna I’ve ever had.

Never said it was, but it is a Japanese fusion restaurant and much better than Shogun.

Maybe it was just what I got, but I was not blown away by Daiwa (besides the Cold Smoked Blue fin tuna toro). The other items I got were good, but I've had better. I will go back just to see what their seasonal fish from Japan are though.

Great to hear. It’s always fun reading the occasional post positing that another Nola sushi restaurant has eclipsed Shogun. Hasn’t happened and don’t expect it to happen at least while Ms Peggy is alive.

New Orleans somewhat thriving Japanese restaurant scene owes all to Shogun. Without Shogun being the nurturing grounds, New Orleans sushi would resemble Atlanta’s sad Japanese scene.
