Your gumbo, your recipe, looks good to me. I would eat and enjoy it.

I'll tell you a secret. All of the folks who say no way here, would happily scarf down a bowl or two if they had a chance, and then go back to criticizing.

I will never understand why folks act the way they do.

I’ve never put tomatoes in my own gumbo, but judging by how good they are in braised meat dishes, I’m sure it’s not bad.

That said, I don’t like seafood gumbo much.

I put tomatoes in my chicken, sausage, tasso sauce piquante. If folks don't like it, they can fight me.

I made a gumbo at the Port Eads houseboat one cold January day that had chicken, duck, sausage, Redfish, shrimp, rabbit and yes a can of diced tomatoes. Duck, rabbit and Redfish caught and killed that day with the shrimp being bought off the boat at the fuel dock still dripping in seawater. It was a 5 gallon cast iron jambalaya pot full and a group of grown men demolished it.

Some rules just don’t apply to everyone.

Gumbo is an art. There’s no “right” way.
No Reinheitsgebot.
I’m a prairie Cajun married NOLA with bayou Cajun roots. I make gumbo many ways.
Geaux Tigers.

I’ve made plenty of gumbos from scratch.

Say what you want but I’d pass on that soup.
