Thoughts on Rolling Knife Sharpeners

Have been considering a purchase of a barrel knife sharpener and wanted to hear feedback before doing so. So many knock offs of the HORL out there; are any worth the cost?
I have a couple of high quality blades and I’m reluctant to use a manual pull-through for these. Interested in experiences and suggestions.

Either go HORL or go cheap knock off. Don't go with one of those $100 brands since they're just a cheap knock off too

I love the one I got on Amazon for like $25.00.
The cheap knockoff I have is a quick way to sharpen my knives and it works great. Wider blades are difficult tho sharpen, however. I used to have Edge Right off Government sharpen my knives annually but don’t need them anymore.

There's a knife guy on YouTube who reviewed these. I think his takeaway was that they don't last that long.

For wide bodied blades they work really well. For smaller blades like pearing knives and fillet they don't work as well.

I picked up the Horl 3 a couple of weeks ago. Got a discount promo from Crate & Barrel which made it cheaper than buying directly from Horl.
I had a few knives that had been neglected and needed work. It takes a bit of getting used to; but, does a very effective job on kitchen knifes and cleavers. Sharpening small pocket knives or paring knives would be difficult. I would highly recommend getting the optional leather strop in addition to the roller. It really brings out the edge after sharpening.

I'm really not trying to be a dick, but we were taught wet and dry stone sharpening in Boy Scouts in the 80s.
You're an adult, and you know the blade is preserved with consistency. Manual or rolling, how you hold the blade controls the outcome. You can buy a blade with an angle between 10-30 degrees, and put it in the "magic machine" at the wrong angle and dull it.
To be fair, I'm a fan of $30 knives (except for the Zojorushi bread knife) that do everything well enough, that I have to sharpen like every 90 days.

I have a Presto sharpener. It's $76 on Amazon. It works just fine.

Yeah I use whet stones myself. Keeps a really sharp edge
