Six of us are coming from Nova Scotia to Louisiana for the Florida game in October. We'll be in New Orleans for two days and nights and Baton Rouge for game day and night. I've read a bunch of the threads here, but am overwhelmed with the amount of information on where to eat and party. Please tell us where to go to get the ultimate Louisiana experience? Thanks for your help.

Go to the Baton Rouge Restuarant in Montreal. No need to travel south.

Just kidding. I'll sit back and see how this one unfolds into a "Baton Rouge has terrible food" thread.

It's a wonder we Baton Rougeans don't all look like Ethiopians.

What is your connection to Baton Rouge/Louisiana? Just curious. My mom and grandparents lived in Halifax many many moons ago. Oh, and another thing...it's a good thing y'all aren't Newfies--we'd turn you back at the border.

I can help with the N.O. part of the deal. If you want the best meal possible, dine at Stella.
If you want something a little less adventuresome food wise, try to eat at Delmonicos. This is one of Emeril's places.

You have to have brunch at Commanders Palace.

If you think you would like a muffalotta, go get one from Central Grocery. Get some bottles of rootbeer when you pick your sandwhich up and go sit out by the river and watched the boats as you eat.

You need to make sure you go have a drink at the Napoleon House.

If the weather is nice, be sure to take a street car ride. The St. Charles route would be best so you can get a nice ride through the oak trees and see all of the nice old homes uptown. Stop at the Columns and have a few cocktails on the porch.

Take a carriage ride around the quarter. This is a good way to see alot of the quarter and learn some of the history.

Go have a bloody mary one morning at a place called Mollys at the Market. It is near the french market, so you can grab one before you go shop.

Been to Baton Rouge in Montreal. It's a good time if you are there before a Canadiens game. I'll give the food a grade of alright. I grew up an hour from there, before I moved to Halifax.

I have no real connection to New Orleans or Baton Rouge except that I went to Acadia University, where my father lives. It's in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, which is basically where the Acadian expulsion took place (Evangeline).

But the reason we are coming is because we want to have the crazy Saturday night in Death Valley experience. I've read a bunch about it, but can't wait to experience it.

If you don't have tickets, make sure to bring lots of $$$$ as this may be a matchup of two top five teams, possibly 1 & 2.

Otherwise, it is well worth the trip to hang out and visit various tailgates and just hang out and watch the game at one of the 8 billion tailgate parties with wide screen HD tv's. Hell, even my poor arse will have one this year.

Make sure you keep checking in closer to football season to get the most useful information on where to go, what to do, etc.

And if your arse is not on campus by 8 am on game day, don't even bother showing up....

Try ACME oysters house (either city), Chimes in BR on gameday.

Avoid Walkons in BR

Enjoy your trip. Keep checking in and enjoy this board. It's informative and entertaining as hell.

As it gets closer to the game, post some information about your trip on the rant and I am sure you will get some invites to some tailgate parties.
Once you get on campus, just start talking to people. People who find out where you are from will want to take care of you.
Be sure you all start drinking alot the week before you come to get your body ready. I am serious. Between being in N.O. and how crazy things are going to be in BR that weekend, you need to party it up.

Yes, waiting 2 hours for a table on the greatest gameday all year is a great idea.

Get to campus early, tell friendly-looking people that you're from Canada and enjoy some southern hospitality (and free food).

Sounds like your only dinner in BR will be after the game; your choices might be limited. Galatoire's Bistro is my suggestion. Those New Orleans recommendations were spot-on.

And say "eh" a lot.

Example: "So, you guys eat crayfish, eh?"

Another thing: U.S. beer is like water compared to Canadian beer. Canadian= 5.5% U.S.=3.2%

Make sure you adjust accordingly.

Love the sound of it all. Exactly the kind of hospitality and partying we will are looking for.

Unfortunately, I expect high ticket prices. We are coming a long way. So we wanted a big game. We also want to get into the game without remortgaging. I'll be looking for advice on that as we get closer to that week - unless people here think we should be getting tix early.

Is the consensus here that we should be headed to BR on Friday night or should drive over on Saturday morning?

I would just drive up on Saturday morning. It is just a little over an hour drive.
There just aren't that many adult fun bars/music clubs in BR and what they do have is going to be jam packed on that Friday night.

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to make sure my guys will get up at a reasonable hour for the drive.

Not sure about NO, but Chimes in BR is one of my personal favorites. Lots of different types of beers and food is pretty good. I get the fried gator and crab cake sandwich.

If you would like you and your crew can come by our tailgate. We got the music, the booze, and the food. Feel free to come and make yourself at home.
