The revolving door that has been C'est La Vie, N'awlins Jazz Cafe and the short-lived Hibiscus is ready for it's next iteration.

quote:

Alison Wild and her partner Lana Banks run Across the Street, a Mexican restaurant, in Atlanta. But for six years, the pair has wanted to have another place in New Orlean
.

quote:

The menu at The Standard is still evolving. There will be sandwiches, salads, crab cakes, grits and grillades, and Eggs Benedict. Weekend brunch will be a main feature. Once The Standard opens, they'll adjust the menu depending on how the neighborhood responds

Great.

Sounds like an appropriately named place, but that's a rough neighborhood to be average.

Shaya aint skered.

Zealot, you've got new neighbors. Hope they're better then your pals at the Jazz Cafe!

Looks good. Problem with that neighborhood is finding a place to eat breakfast on the weekend without standing in line. Hopefully this place will fill that void.

I'm rooting for them. They're very nice people. I agree about breakfast. At 10am on a Saturday, you can't get in anywhere for brunch in the area. If they can do that right, they may have found something.

We also mentioned to them there's a gap in the market for a good creative salad. We would order every week if they could create one.

Yeah, I would have prefered they bring down their Mexican joint.

Nothing wrong with standard food if done well. Doesn't have to be all about the latest trends.

That said, it will be hard to be successful without living here, imo.

Actually, a place with good breakfasts and "creative salads" might do okay. There's nothing really like that nearby. And it's within easy walking distance. Needs to be open at night (at least early evening) and Sat and Sun.

Welp, there are people who work along Magazine who would like to grab salad for lunch, perhaps. Tough to make one while at work. Now I know you usually take your sandwiches in a ziplock to work, but that's a little tiring after awhile.

OB and LE, such fricking haters and posers.

Now excuse me, I have to get home and tend to my Mucsovy duck breast with cauliflower polonaise and shallots.

Yeah OB being a bit pretentious up in this thread. He's making the place sound like he's already too good for it.

Anytime I read about a place opening that will serve "normal food for normal people" I mentally wonder how long it will stay open.

Fact is the relatively high rent of Magazine St. will make it tough to make a restaurant successful serving salads. People dont go out to eat, very much, for salads, grillades, and eggs benedict.

Couple of years, never been. But that spot only does salads right? And its probably a lunch only spot and does lots of catering and post yoga seshs.

Ps what is the service style there? Is it Subway style? Changes cost model a bit if so
