Rally's

I used to love Rally's until one of my buddies that worked there told me about how many times they'd drop patties on the ground, and the manager told them to cook it anyway.

Always loved the fries back in high school, though.

how is the bulldog any better than the chimes? The food at the Chimes is better, and beer selection seems to be comparable. The one great thing about the Bulldog is the outdoor seating, but will they allow a similar setup in BR?

I think the Bulldog has a bigger and better beer selection. I had heard it will have some outdoor seating so I am looking forward to being able to spend a few hours there on wonderful fall Saturdays during football season or before some baseball games this spring.
Can't stand the cluster fck that Chimes becomes. I do consider it more of a restaurant and not really a place where me and a group of friends can go to relax for a while while drinking a little.

NOLA is pretty far behind the food times as well for a city that likes to think it is a foodie haven.

Yeah, N.O.'s on about a 3-4 year plan, for catching onto national trends, as opposed to B.R.'s 5-10 year plan.

The difference between the two is, catching onto national trends is not all N.O. has going for it. Of course, I see how that can sometimes be viewed as provincial by some.

Vietnamese is the new trendy food across America...so can New Orleans say we were well ahead of the times on that one due to the large Vietnamese population that popped up restaurants all over town over 20 years ago???

ETA: I agree that BR is due for a tapas bar...even Lafayette has one.

no, and NYC can't take credit for chinese food either.

and TA, when is the last time you went to Pho Tau Bay? I went on saturday, tried ordering the pho with brisket fat for the second time in about a month. Both times the lady says, "oh, you sure you like dat?". I say yes. Hear her yell something about the order and i get a bowl of pho with dry, overcooked brisket meat, with a trace amount of fat. Have they finally gone all round eye in their ingredients? I didn't say anything b/c they are so damn nice in there, but i think that i will have to start sticking to Pho Bang in that area....never, ever lets me down and always has the right nasty bits in stock.

I am sure there will be Pho Tau Bay lovers ready to criticize me on this one, but here goes...Pho Bang's Pho>Pho Tau Bay's Pho. I eat Pho Bang for lunch at least once a week (the one in "Kennairie").

I was just being facetious on the Vietnamese/NOLA thing. I am with Y.A. on this one...I am glad we are a few years behind the times in restaurants. It helps weed out the crappy ideas that fail every year in NYC and LA.

Then you would have to also agree that BR is doing well on the Vietnamese front as well. Plenty of Pho in BR.

BR has good lebanese and vietnamese...I would never argue that one. NOLA has similar or better in both...it would be nice if BR had some other ethnic food (thai, ethiopian, etc) that they were noted for...it would just be cool to only have to travel an hour to find a large population of "x" ethnicity and great restaurants serving their food. I guess what I am saying is that it's ashame that both cities are notable for the same two "foreign" ethnic food

I just wish BR had a great selection of creole, contemporary creole, and cajun places considering it's proximity to the two cities of origin of these cuisines and their relative proximity to the same ingredients. This is what I have asserted in the past as well. But please let's not get into this again.

A real BBQ joint and REAL chinese, preferably from the Hunan/Sichuan regions are my only current wishes for the New Orleans dining scene.

NOLA>BR:

contemperary american
Burgers - with BR's loss of fairway view, and the downfall of dearman's.
bread bakeries

Wash:
cajun

sushi/jap - neither city is overly impressive.
bbq - same as above

It amazes me that BR can't support ONE local restaurant that's even a reasonable facsimile of this.

it's mindblowing. I think anything that started this way would have to revert to just topping everything in lump crabmeat to justify the "high" prices.
