The food obsessed forum-dwellers on Tiger Droppings have mixed feelings. Apparently, the grasshoppers aren't doing much for the guac. "Are these fricking Chalmette Grasshoppers?" somebody asks. No, they're from Versaille, Louisana. Better news: the sweetbread tacos are legit, and the TD-forumers may claim Johnny Sanchez as thier new Peche. Also, rumors about on likely upcoming brunch, game day, and happy hour specials.

Half arse effort by Eater. Surely the speculation about the source of the grasshoppers were pure jokes. And the yelp review is from a poster here, it's almost word for word with the review on TD.

Also, where is Versailles, LA? I am unfamiliar with any actual town called Versailles in LA.

There is indeed a neighborhood in NO East called Versailles, but it's not a town....if this is the place she means, it would have been far more informative to say "the eastern NOLA neighborhood of Versailles". I mean, no one would say that their cilantro was sourced from Driftwood, LA if they meant the Kenner subdivision of Driftwood.

ETA: went back and read the other thread, and it's clear that the article's author does not know where Versailles is, or why one would not refer to a suburban NOLA neighborhood as though it is a separate town.

It's a real shame they didn't quote LL's review, IMO. Would have fit the overall theme of the article.

Yea I don't get her wording. She said it had mixed reviews yet also said it's the new Peche potentially. I think an overwhelming amount of folks enjoyed their first experience.

Let me clear that one up Hungryone. All in joking a poster said the bugs came from Versallies, which another poster didn't realize was a local place. That poster then made a comment about the bugs not being local which in turn the original jokester told them to google Versailles Louisiana to learn where it was located. Hope that makes sense.

Exactly. Cool shout out to Tigerdroppings, but the writing / tone of the article is inconsistent; shows TD is the superior source for info on Food & Drink. They need to hire hungryone or niknik to replace this broad.

Versailles is an unincorporated community in Saint Bernard Parish, Louisiana. It is along the East Bank of the Mississippi River, about 3.5 miles below the lower limit of New Orleans. The community, for governmental and postal address purposes, is considered part of Chalmette and by some designations, part of neighboring Meraux. The name "Versailles", as a place designation, continues in local use.

I got that part, but I don't get why she would refer to it. It can be perceived as a vaguely racist smear (weird ingredients raised by Asians in NO East), or as the author being ignorant of local geography. Or, it's potentially incorrect and the grasshoppers are raised elsewhere.

But I went to journalism school slightly before the world wide web existed, where if you put your name on a byline, it actually meant you'd done a little research and not simply scraped unverified content from another source without ever leaving your office or picking up the phone.

shite, now I'm all mad over some damn grasshoppers. Maybe they're crickets from Blackie Campo's in Shell Beach, LOL. (edited for typos)

The Versailles I know is firmly in Orleans Parish, centered around Mary Queen of Vietnam church parish. Like dis: LINK /
