Well, yeah. It is bitching to bitch... we're talking to talk in this thread? I don't think what we say and do here will change their business decisions one way or the other. You were just saying how you're worried about the place turning into a ghost town and feel sorry for the employees... which is... basically just bitching to bitch? Our views on this literally do not matter. If you didn't want to read commentary about this decision, then don't read this thread.
But, common'. You're foolish if you don't think someone in the Bulldog office is trying to spin this as a positive marketing aspect and a good thing for public health. They're in several media outlets today, trying to get (and already are) public praise for making an anti-smoking decision.
And, yeah, I mean I'm not silly enough to think the Bulldog cares about my respect or props or anything... I'm just saying this is doing something that should have already been legally in place years ago. It's like a headline from years ago or something and just shows far we are as a state behind the rest the country.
It also somewhat bothers me to make advertising claims that aren't true. They are NOT a smoke free establishment, no matter how you cut that cake. If I was looking for an afternoon on a patio with fresh air and went to the Bulldog because I saw this "smoke free announcement," then I'd be pretty pissed to see smokers on the patio.

I'm sure they'll figure out a way to make them happy :)
This doesn't make a difference to me as I don't smoke and have been cheating on Bulldog with intentions of continuing (

I was there Tuesday,Thursday & Friday of last week. Really didn't notice anyone smoking.
I usually see people smoking at the bar. But I seem to recall seeing more bar smokers in the winter.
I'm glad they're doing this. I always get confused about when they are open for lunch -- I've had days off from work during the week and been thwarted in my attempts to go to the Bulldog for day drinking.

In BR? Unlikely. Their Sunday daytime business is miserable. Hell, their Saturday night business leaves a lot to be desired. They get a good Friday daytime crowd because half of the city leaves work at 11AM on Fridays.
Pelican House, which is in even more of a 'business' area, tried to do lunches (and they have better food) and didn't get business to justify staying open. I'd be completely shocked if Bulldog's lunch was a wild success.

I cant wait to see what they come up with. I mean they are constantly just sitting there burning one after the other

My post about it being dead in the bar is not bitching, at all.

When does a place ever market something positively they think will be detrimental to their business? Never.
I doubt theyre worried about public health. If they were, their bars would have been no smoking the day they opened.

I got the email today. Didnt seem like they were asking for praise for this new decision.

also I think it will hurt them when it rains unless they let everyone go out front under the canopy but that wont bode well with other businesses IMO

In BR, that is what smoke free is understood as. We don't have any bars than ban patio smoking. I know that some states do, but until we have a law that bans smoking within a certain footage of a building, they are going to consider not smoking indoors to be "smoke free".
Side note - I found you on Reddit accidentally a while back

Yeah, I know that's a controversial one for a lot of people (which, oftentimes in my prejudiced mind seem to be the folks from all the "taker" states) with government overreach issues and such.
But, it's really a public health issue. In 100 years people will look at at how we allowed smoking in bars to be as nutty, irresponsible and foreign as heroin cough syrup, smoking on airplanes and so on. It's one of those "which side of history do you want to be on" kinda things.
No, I don't think this issue (a smoking ban) is one I'll personally take the time and effort to lobby in support for, but I wouldn't devote my life's work to keeping the smoking industry alive or keeping smoking permissions in place.
I'll drop the political angle from this point on. About the Bulldog...

They have to revamp the menu for this to happen.

What exactly this means beyond some rotating specials, I have no idea. There are a few things I don't mind, but for the most part, I'm not huge on their food. Pretty much only eat it if I'm already going to drink and am hungry.
Wise: I didn't respond to your arse, tard

Cant leave the front door with a drink.
I dont know how they could cater to smokers in the rain besides adding some more overhangs on the patio or maybe gating in the front door area, which seems very unlikely. Maybe go smoke outside the front door in the rain between drinks
