you CAN eat them as a dessert, just as you can eat cheese for dessert. but that doesn't change their innate connotation.

I don't think that beignets are really anything

They can be dessert, appetizer, side item, breakfast etc...

That being said the specific kind that are being talked about in this thread would be breakfast pastries IMHO

Nor am I an expert, so I'm glad we can agree to disagree

My favorite baklava in the area is sold at the Greek Fest in May. My favorite sold in a restaurant is from Acropolis in Metairie.

I haven't tried the Acropolis one but the Baklava at Jamila's is excellent.

That is some damn good baklava and food at that Greek Fest every year.

I haven't been to the past 2 because of being on vacation in Destin.

This is right up your alley. I wouldn't be surprised if she was your idol.

Oh and in case you forgot, while New Orleans has roots in many cultures, it does not mean we should stick to all their customs. Can you not accept that New Orleans culture treats beignets as a breakfast food? If I wanted to live like the French do, I would move to France. Maybe you should do the same.

No, I haven't. I've never even heard of it, but thanks to you, I will do my best to try it before the month's end.

Thanks for the link, Wink.
