That's a Taco Bell express. No drive thru. Gotta park 3 blocks away. Not open late. etc. etc. etc.

I wouldn't call that location Uptown or safe at 2am.
Posted on 9/28/11 at 3:23 pm to TigerMyth36
Isn't that where it was located before the storm?

Hell - I live in the FQ and unless that drive through lets you do 35 mph and they toss it in your window, my skinny white Irish arse ain't going nowhere near it.

So is this Taco Bell in a bad location? (Yes, I am from Metairie and don't venture Uptown much, plus I'm at LSU now).

quote:Yes. I didn't read the article but they are probably just reopening the one that was in that spot before Katrina.

I've never understood what happened to all of the Taco Bell locations after the storm. Did one person own them all and he or she decided to move? They all stayed closed. The one near the Orleans prison wasn't in a safe location but I did hit that one from time to time during daylight.
The one on Jefferson Highway by the hospital wasn't too bad.
The one on Jeff highway in River Ridge was horrible. The service was terrible and the food actually tasted different than other spots. The really shorted the meat and sauces noticeably.
I'm actually perplexed as to why it has taken so long for someone to reopen a new location. The one by Elmwood is always crowded.
Whoops forgot they do have a relatively new location on Airline by the Roller Rink.

During the day, its ok. At night, no way in hell. You're safer going to Shadey's!

It is going into the location of the abandoned Pizza Hut on Claiborne, so 2800 S. Claiborne, so corner of Washington and Claiborne.

a Taco Bell opened in Gentilly on Chef on the old Sonic spot a few months back

No. The Taco Bell that was nearby before Katrina was on the other side of Claiborne and maybe a half mile upriver. The old building is now Orleans Seafood & Grill.

Yeah, that one was in a marginally better neighborhood. Went there 1 or 2 times late night and didn't get shot.

That part of Claiborne where the new Taco Bell will be is not nearly as "bad", if you consider poverty bad, since Katrina.

That Pizza Hut was closed before Katrina.
I agree that the Magnolia Project area has improved since undergoing remodelling, and the NOPD has actually made a dent in the drug/gang violence of that area, but it's still pretty rough, especially late at night.
Maybe if some of those other run down places on Claiborne can get cleaned up and back into commerce, the area will actually experience a bigger revival. That KFC across the street is still boarded up, and that nearby half-arse retirement condo building is way over due to get demolished.

For those saying that Taco Bell is a bad rendition of Mexican food, you're right. But there are no other drive thru and/or fast food tex-mex places around. If there are, please advise!
I would love for a Taco Cabana to open up in Uptown!

quote:ugh! That brings back memories of getting out of Taz Country at 2:30 am and hitting Taco Cabana and eating until I needed a hospital.

Beef, bean and cheese nachos for the win!

There's a Taco Tico on Veterans that has been there probably since before I was born
. Haven't been there in ages so I'm not sure if they're better than Taco Bell; plus they don't stay open that late and you have to go inside to order/no drive-thru. The parking lot needs to be repaved badly.
