I always hated that as a kid
My plate was turkey, rice dressing, green bean casserole and a roll
Pecan pie for dessert

Brown sugar
Pecan
Butter
Sweet potato
If it's done right it's like candy.

Throw in some garlic cheese grits, and we could be twins.

edited to correct:
Cut up (chunks) 4 cups of potato and boil in water. When tender, mash, add a tablespoon of sugar, 1/4 tsp of cinnamon, 1/2 Tablespoon butter. Place in casserole dish and scatter marshmallows on top and bake in 350 oven for 20 minutes then finish under broiler if not browned after 20 minutes.
Want fancy? add two Tablespoons of orange juice and a little orange zest to mash.
Even fancier? Scatter a few pecan pieces on top with marshmallows.

I asked the wife and she said, "I never cook those."
I said, "It is for a kid."
She said, "Oh."
And then she gave me the recipe.

I hated it as a kid too. Didn't realize I liked sweet potatoes until I was in my 20s and learned you could have them savory.

Roast your SP's in the skin for instead of boiling. Praline topping instead of marshmallows.

3 cups cooked sweet potatoes( I bake them bc it's easier)
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter, softened
2 eggs, beaten
1 t vanilla( I use a few teaspoons of vanilla, butter & nut extract
1/3 cup milk
Mix altogether.
I use a different topping, but you can bake at 350 and add marshmallows in the last minutes of cooking.

I also recommend baking the taters instead of boiling.
IMO baked are far superior to boiled.

Yes, same here. Very easy, but delicious side.
