Supreme Hibachi Buffet now open (Old Ryan's on Coursey)

I was driving by and the sign said "grand opening Monday July 23", so I decided to peek in to see what it was all about. I approached the entrance way and a couple were leaving and this is the exact thing I heard one person say to the other, "I thought it would be better than that for a grand opening. I'm not coming back." (True story
)
I didn't have time to try it but I asked to check out the spread. They've retained the old grill area from Ryan's, but obviously it's now a hibachi style grill. Chicken along with fake Krab and veggies are ready to be cooked.
There are probably seven other stations, one had salads with chilled peel and eat shrimp, mussels, squid salad, kimchi, etc.
Another was a protein station that had a whitefish, salmon (both appeared overcooked...not a surprise for a mid afternoon buffet), pork and ham.
A couple of other stations looked right out of the Great Wall with your expected Chinese fare.
Soups included miso, egg drop, a seafood soup, and I'm not sure if I saw hot and sour.
The sushi station had variety of a dozen rolls only.
There was a desert station with the usual Little Debbie snacks, various melons, but what was interesting is that they had a cascading chocolate fountain that you could take a skewer with a lone threaded marshmallow and dip into it. Perhaps a nice concept for an upscale champagne brunch with strawberries, but I could see this thing being one huge mess. We'll see how long that feature lasts.
One thing that I was impressed with is that it didn't seem overly depleted like some buffets can get mid afternoon.
I also didn't ask about pricing.
On a side note, I noticed that the old Dingo building next door is accumulating some nice graffiti.

Passed this yesterday. I am curious on pricing as well and what does the hibachi actually include.

Degas, this might be the worst restaurant review in history...really you gave a review and didn't eat??
Is this even possible? Do you give book reviews after reading the cover? That was WEAK DUDE!
We expect more from you man, get it together:)
I ATE there this evening.
To answer all the following posters questions:
Price for dinner was $9:95 or something under $10 for dinner.
The chocolate fountain had cookies, strawberries, other fruit, homemade rice crispy treats etc. not just marshmallow’s.
The buffet had all kinds a shite including boiled craw fish, clams and fried frog legs as well as your traditional Chinese buffet food.
I did not see the krab but they had 15 20 count shrimp at the hibachi station as well as steak, chicken etc.
They had plenty of steak dishes...
As far as for the food, the sweet and sour soup was really good. The traditional Chinese food was good but some of the dishes were cold.
My take, the food was good, not great, but did I mention, it was $9.95...
It was there first day, coming from an old restaurant guy, it ran smooth compared to most of the first days I experienced. Give them a month and they will be fine...But don't let expectations run wild, it's 10 freakin bucks for dinner

I'm not a buffet guy but for $10 a dinner, I hope they draw a following. I'll stick with takeout from China Express, the $8 dinners, I add an extra egg roll, are more than my wife and I can eat.

Food guaranteed to give me diarrhea :
Hibachi
Fried catfish
Philly cheesesteaks
Out of those 3 I think Philly cheesesteaks are the only ones worth eating.

Alright, I had to bump this because I just saw the above.
The good: It's $9.95, decent variety, the fish that was offered wasn't overcooked. For the price, it's a very good value.
The less than good: Awkward things like this...
Notice the crust all around the edge of that pan and the egg sort of clinging there like dead flesh. When that got low I watched them simply pour more soup into the same crusted pan. The soup was tasty though. ;)
They also have installed a very slippery floor. Any sort of splashed liquid or oil is going to eventually plant someone on their arse. I noticed this even before a Hispanic girl towing a cart with food from the kitchen let it drift into a post, spilling food and liquid onto the floor. That sat there for a few minutes, with both staff and customers walking directly through it, until one server had the presence of mind to clean it up. Little things like that sort of diminished the experience for me, but as you've stated, it's only ten bucks. (They have no liquor license yet)
...and of course, there's always the awkward:
I loves me some Crowfish sauce, especially in early September.
I'll probably be back. For $9.95, I can find items there to justify a return visit.

Just one question: Is crow a game bird? TIA

Hehe. Reminds me of being with out of staters at Hong Kong Buffet (don't judge, there were extenuating circumstances). Several of them kept asking me about the crawfish, but they had shrimp on their plates. We continued to miscommunicate about the non-crawfish looking shrimp until I finally noticed that the sign over the boiled shrimp said, "Crawfish."

I have no idea, really, what this place is like. But it just sounds fricking awful.

I went a few weeks ago. If you like the great wall you will like it here, plus more variety. I didn't even get a chance to do the hibachi part so not sure on that but seemed legit.

I eagerly await your review of the new (Teppanyaki?)Sushi Buffet opening off Seigen in old Sicily buffet..
And the new sushi hut near Foxy's off Airline by trailer park, barrio, and industrial park..what a natural sushi demographic!
BR has a fever..and the only prescription is more sushi joints.
