Stubb's Bar-B-Q - Austin

I'm a big fan of the Stubb's sauces, in particular the Moppin' sauce and the Original.
How's the actual restaurant and bbq though? Obviously, Franklin, Black's, Micklethwait and la Barbecue get a lot of the recognition. Salt Lick also gets a lot of notoriety. I know Stubb's is supposedly a great place to catch a concert. The food pretty good too?

is probably the most overrated of all overrated BBQs. I will die on this hill.
sorry for hijacking the thread. I don't know why I'm so triggered.

It's well below average for Barbecue, if eating at the one on Red River where the concert venue is.
They used to have a few more locations, and one out near Bee Cave that was actually not bad, but I think all of those have closed.
But their sauce isn't bad. I've never had the Moppin' Sauce.

McCormick bought Stubb's sauces around 5 years ago and as part of the deal they closed all but the main Red River restaurant.
Last year C3 Presents bought the venue & restaurant. I haven't been back to see if it's any better. Hard to be any worse.

I ate there about 16-17 years ago and thought it was good.
Has it slipped, or have a lot of other places just surpassed it?
Or was I simply mistaken then, and it was shite at that time as well?

Neither the sauces or the restaurant has any real connection to the original, it's all branding. The original Stubbs in Austin only lasted 3 years, closing in '89. Investors opened it back up after Stubbs death in the late 90's. As of today, the Sauce arm, owned by McCormick, sued the restaurant over the Stubbs name and they were going to have to change the name. Live Nation bought the restaurant and music venue and I guess had enough high dollar lawyers to fight McCormick and kept the Stubbs name.

I think I saw COC and Danzig there years ago.

Not crazy about the mopping or bbq sauce but love the pork and chicken marinades.

Years ago I got thrown through the doors head first by some bouncers for climbing the tree and refusing to come down during a string cheese concert. Didn’t get to eat any food on my way out though
