I think my favorite part in this thread is that people assume I'm a complete dick to servers or show up at restaurants at 9:55 routinely.
The instance I posted about Chris' was the last time I can recall sitting down at a restaurant near close. Have I gotten togo orders at 9:45? Sure.

What's wrong with that?
Because they complain about customers that follow the rules. In a closing time thread people that come in before the official close are rude and inconsiderate. In a tipping thread they get upset when people choose what to tip less than they feel they deserve when the customers are given a loose, unwritten and variable guideline rather than a rigid pricing structure.

same here .. i have always adhered to the sacred unwritten law that you should never order food and sit down at a restaurant in the last hour .. but that still doesn't stop me from thinking the mentality is fricking stupid ..

i have gotten burgers to go 15 or 20 minutes before close, and i profusely ask the bartender to make sure it is OK with the kitchen .. then i toss an extra $5 or $10 on top of my tip and say thank you ..

Never worked in the industry in my life. But I tend to side with the workers in a lot of these spats. I do eat out a lot and I do know a lot of service industry workers. I don't show up just before closing unless I know it will be cool and their are other customers still there. I also tip well (assuming good service). That's how they make their money. And I hate the practice of asking for separate checks. Now I'll ask to split a check on a credit card, but that's different.

And the hours are posted on the fricking door. Get over it.
Exactly. 9:58 is before 10. Are you retarded?

This is exactly how I feel about it.
Hours are meaningless if you can't walk in 15 minutes before close. If it says on the door 2pm-10pm but everyone wants to start closing up at 10pm then they should change it to:
Open 2PM
Doors close 9:30
idk why more places don't post doors closed time instead of just 2pm - 10 pm.
