How does that change anything of what I said?

The bold is the problem with your attitude. Change the hours, get another job, or shut the frick up.

and this is what i have been talking about the entire thread .. the attitude taken toward the customer that walks in within the last hour of business ... not about the guys in the kitchen pissing in their food, slashing their tires, beating the walls with pots like hulk is implying i am saying .. it is just the ATTITUDE ..

You don't get off at close. Also, this is a situation that happens in so many lines of work.

i close my office at 5PM everyday .. i can count on one hand the number of times i have walked out at 5 in the last year ..

once again .. let's stop exaggerating here ..

I contend that kitchen workers will complain and groan a little when someone comes in while they're trying to close up, and you act like that's horrible and they shouldn't do that. Everyone complains about their job man, even people that like their job. That's what I'm getting at - Aside from the occasional just-before-close table, most of the time the BOH would not really get mad about someone coming in late, just irritated. That's nothing new to any job.

And no, closing time is 10 and you don't get off at 10, there is more to close. But if you don't get the people coming in at 9:58 and expecting full service, you can finish up in 15-20 minutes and be out of there, whereas jim and sally being seated just before close means you're staying there until they finish eating and you clean up their mess, which is normally an extra hour or so since you can't break everything down with people in the restaurant still.

It clearly will change attitudes. Go pull 10 hours in a kitchen and then tell me you wouldn't be irritated if someone comes in just before you're getting off.

It's your fricking job. Get over it. Do sewer workers complain about smelling like a-hole after work?

I'd put money on it that they do sometimes. EVERYONE has complaints about their jobs.

And I bet you think that a sewer worker complaining about the smell is ridiculous. Be honest.

Ridiculous? No, I'd hate that too.
Something to be expected? Yes. That doesn't mean he can't be annoyed by it.

They only come because your boss tells them it's ok. Stop getting mad at the customers and get mad at the boss.

No problem with you being irritated, just be irritated at the right people.

I can agree with this.

For the most part when I was working in a restaurant and complained about people coming in late, I was irritated and venting more than anything else. I seriously only got mad one time and it was because I had somewhere to be and we had a 6 top come in 2 minutes to close. Still, I did a little complaining and did my work and moved on.

What's wrong with that?

I think my clients should give a shite about my complaints.

i love the old saying about problems -- 95% that you tell could give a crap about it and the other 5% are glad it's happening to you ..

And if I show up at 9:50 I should expect the same treatment as if I was there at 7pm. Right? Hours on the door say they are open.
