For years I've been having king cakes shipped to me out of state, but it's never really worth it as they inevitably get tumbled around during shipment and delivered in a heaping mess.

My wife recently discovered Paul's Pastry Shop out of Picayune that will deliver an undecorated cake with all the fixings you need to decorate at home after delivery.

So, two questions:

1) Anyone familiar with Paul's Pastry Shop? i.e. are they worth ordering from?

2) Are there any other bakeries that ships their cakes in this fashion?

I’ve not had one shipped from Paul’s, but someone brings me one from there every year. I’ve always enjoyed them. Not on the level with Randazzos, but still good.

I’ve never ordered from Paul’s. My orders from Haydel’s have always been great.

Gambinos bakery in NOLA delivers them like that. Plain cake with icing and sugar packs you apply at home. had one delivered yesterday.
