I had Zaxby's for the first time yesterday while driving from Tallahassee to Baton Rouge. I'd heard Canes ripped off Zaxby's menu, and it's pretty obvious they did.

Fingers - same as Canes, but actually seasoned. Much better
Sauce - same sauce, but Z's gives you more
Fries - crinkle cut, bigger, and seasoned
Cole Slaw - was good and lightly dressed. Nice finish to the meal of fried carbs
Toast - same as Canes but there's is a slice of bread.

Zaxby's is much better and if Z's would have came out after Canes, I think Canes would be in trouble.

OK

Edit: Sorry, thought this was on the OT. I need to try Zaxby's. All of my Ole Miss friends swear by it.

I tried two Zaxby's locations in Strakvegas. It sucked. The chicken fingers were more like Walmart than Cane's. And everything was a cluster of salt/seasoning.

Why is it a shame?

Seems like they ripped off another company pretty well. So I guess that's something they did right.

They've also increased prices, decreased portions, and lowered food quality. But Baton Rouge people love it regardless because it is local, I suppose.

All I'm saying is it was nice to eat food that's been seasoned

Because it makes me wish Z's was still around in BR for the rare occasions where I want chicken fingers. I don't eat them often, maybe 1-2 times a year, so I'm not the target customer anyway

Well considering Canes is a cluster of salt, it was nice to get some seasoning along with my salt.

Way back in th day. I remember there being one when I was in college from 01-06.

Canes is in the building now. I can picture the location, but can't think of the street

It isn't just BR people who love Canes dude. I was watching Floyd Mayweather on HBO 24X7 for his last fight and him and his boyz were pimping Canes in Vegas....loving the shite.

Maybe people need to stop being so jealous and just not eat there if they don't like it. Seems to me you goofballs are in the minority.

I don't think I am

Edit: maybe I am. I just seem to remember a Zaxby's in BR in a weird looking building on Perkins or Bluebonnet or something. Dunno. Hope they do plan on opening one in BR. Then people can get a decent chicken finger meal

Well I have no money invested in Canes or Zaxby's, so the success of either one has no impact on me. I'd heard from quite a few people (most on this board) that Canes was an inferior version of Z's. I had a chance to eat there and I agree.

I guess Canes just markets better

You are absolutely delusional. I am from central florida where they only have zaxbys. Its chicken is too breaded. Toast is harder and not texas toast. The sauce is not nearly as good, no spice and it isnt made fresh daily. This is a shame this is even a topic. Zaxby's is only good at their buffalo chicken that doesnt have much breading on it. you dont get very much for a dollar more than canes prices. Canes 5 years ago would laugh at this but , canes is slowly shrinking the size of their tenders

And Cane's and Zaxby's both ripped off Guthrie's.

Guthrie's 1965

Zaxby's 1990

Cane's 1997

Both founders of Zaxby's and Cane's took the relatively simple idea of fingers, fries, toast and sauce from Guthrie's. I think one even worked as a manager at Guthrie's.

Guthrie's should have gotten a patent on chicken fingers.

You guys remember when you could get a Quarter Pounder meal deal for $2.99 and gas was .89 a gallon? Prices go up. Deal with it.

I mean the idea is simple. Where Cane's and Zaxby's beat Guthrie's was in their business model and franchising. Guthrie's wanted to remain a family run operation, but both founders went to UGA. Guthrie's had a Athens location. They took an idea that worked and ran with it.

The meal I had yesterday disagrees with all of that. Except the sauce was prepackaged but tasted better and the serving was larger.
