Corner of G O'Neal & O'Neal, where Another Broken Egg was....They added a nice patio. I like the place, and just started going back there after avoiding it for a few years.

Whatever happened to that restaurant Buddy's?
I used to love that smoked ribeye at Buddy's...Don't know what happened to them.

seems to be fighting right now too ... IMO .. they don't really do enough in the appreciation department for their regulars

cold food and the portions shrinking
I have never been a regular at Portobello's but everytime I have been there the service was seriously lacking. The last time I was there I sat in the bar and watched the bartender chat it up with other employees and text on her phone while we sat dry, then our food was cold. Don’t think I will go back.

Portobello's has lost a lot of good employees over the past few months, and they have replaced them with some not so good employees.

I passed there yesterday--it looked really quiet but maybe it was just the wrong time of day?

There was a catfish dish I really liked from there.

No, everything is pure speculation on my part...The last few times I've been to Outback on weeknights it was dead. You combine that with the fact that they're not open for lunch and I'd guess that they'd have to be kicking arse on the weekends to make ends meet. Again, just my observation
oh, i see where you'd get that observation from .. on weeknights, they are dead .. like 5 or 6 cars in the parking lot .. they really need to open earlier in the day and have a decent happy hour there .. i love the bartenders there .. but everyone in the area has noticed the vast reductions in portion sizes while the prices remain the same or go up .. the salad is the biggest example .. you used to get a big one with your steak and you also used to get two pretty good sized sides .. now you only get one that looks like it was scooped on your plate by a tablespoon ... they've also gone up significantly on their beer prices ..

corner of o'neal and george o'neal .. behind the rite aid, you can't miss it ..

It is where Pieworks was before.
I thought I'd heard at one time that Pieworks was going to reopen in the shopping center on Jones Creek where Ralph's Market is. Maybe I was dreaming. I would like for something decent to open up in that center. Cajun J's wasn't very good.
i actually liked pieworks and was pissed when it shut down .. it ironically happened shortly after the guy that owned dingo's got booted out of the southern oaks athletic club and started working for them ...
cajun j's was fricking horrible .. i tried to support them .. but gag ..

and it doesn't make sense .. on a dead night, they have 13 wait people standing around with their thumbs up their asses .. shite, you could have 2 per table .. there is no excuse for bad service there .. but i have noticed that the turnover is pretty high .. or at least was last summer when i frequented the place .. after they let Brad go as the GM over there .. the place went to shite ..

If it hasn't, its inevitable. My impression is the guy has no idea what he is doing. I like the place too, but it lacks focus and marketing. Most people don't know it exists.

Truth.
At the beginning of my last meal there, I ordered a glass of wine. The salad came and I finished that, then the entree. About halfway through the entree, the waiter brought the glass of wine that he'd forgotten.

Buddy's
I believe he moved from George O'neal to the
shopping center @ Jones Creek and Tiger Bend.
They were next door or near the K & B drugstore.
Lost track of them after that location closed, btw. ETA

Outback seems to be doing just fine, as is Dempsey's and Casa Lavida. George's does well, though I can't understand why. I hear the little cajun place on Jones Creek (Jasmine's) is doing well. I'll take other's word on City Cafe...I never notice the place.
Everything else out there is on death watch, I'd say. The moment I saw the first sign for Nagoya coming, I said to myself "This will never work."
To me, part of it is Shenandoah/Hickory Ridge is a suburb in the city (well, technically NOT in the city). Folks there are close enough to "town" to feel motivated to drive to Bluebonnet/Siegen for their nights out but they are far enough removed from town to feel like making the short drive to feel like they are out and about.
They'll pass Nagoya to go to a comparably bad hibachi/sushi joint like Kona Grill, or whatnot, just so they feel like they've gone out on the town.
ETA: How's the Thai take-out place next to Wal-Mart doing? I'm not a huge fan, but it is nice to have out there.

Before that Buddy was located on Oneal across from Wal-mart.
Before that he was on Harrels Ferry in the back of a strip mall.
Before that he was in the old Catfish house on North Little John..
That guy has been more places than anyone I know

I don't understand businesses that open and have absolutely no advertising plans or budget. Why do they bother opening at all?
Posted on 6/19/12 at 5:18 pm to brbengalgal
I'll toss out a couple other places up and down the Coursey Corridor that I like: Pocorrello's (sp?) and Coffee Bean (a bit pricy for what it is, but a good turkey burger).
Now a few places that I don't know how they stay open: Louisiana Seafood (next to Community Coffee...which I also like), New Orleans Po-Boy and Gyro (who goes there?), Rotolo's (they picked a run-down looking location), Italian Pie (same as Rotolo's).
And an RIP to Hebert's Coffee on Jefferson Hwy. across from Tramonte's. They roasted their beans in house...right in front of you if you came at the right time. Good stuff...I could never understand how they were supposed to stay in business though...and, of course, they didn't.
