Sautéed Turnip Greens (Photos)

Had bloodwork done again today and my INR is still too high, so we had turnips again tonight. As you guys know, there is more than one way to cook turnips. A couple of years back, I posted a pot of boiled turnips. I think they were mixed with mustard greens. Tonight I decided to sauté them (turnip greens only). I wound up with only two servings, but they were very good. Here is what I did.
Started with:
Turnip greens, turnip roots country ham, sugar, oil, and some black pepper (not shown). There is salt there, but I did not use it.
The first thing I did was put half of my package of country ham into the sauté pan to start cooking.
While that was going on, I washed and stripped the turnip leaves from the stems into smallish pieces.
Into the hot pan they went, over the ham.
Then I peeled and cut up one turnip root. Into the pan it went, with a couple of teaspoons of oil.
I like pepper with my greens so I seasoned them with black pepper and a little sugar. Country ham can be really salty, so I did not add any salt to the greens. When all was complete, they did not need it.
The pan is hot and the greens begin to wilt quickly.
I used a lid on the pan and in no time at all the greens had reduced to a level that frightened me because I hoped to have two servings when all was finished.
I used the lid and after maybe three minutes, the turnip roots were fork tender.
Plated
Money shot
A natural, safer way to push my INR down.
Thanks for looking at my post.

Good for you, MDog! Good stuff.
I´ve had success thinly slicing turnips and parnsips in medallions, and baking in some olive oil, with a bit of cinnamon on some, a bit of nutmeg on others. Tiny bit of salt, as well.
Nice accompaniement.

I love turnips cooked that way. They take on a slightly sweet taste is my experience. I will grow them in my garden again this fall/winter since the do so well in my raised bed I use for root crops.

When I was a child, I wouldn't have ever thought of eating a turnip or turnip greens. Mustard greens cooking made me gag.
I loved my grandmother's vegetable soup. I started making vegetable soup, but I could never get that certain flavor hers had. I found out she put turnips in hers and that was the missing flavor. Turns out I loved turnips all along!
Learned that I love greens, too. Now, the smell of mustard greens makes me salivate.

Food is a matter of opinion and taste. Just because you don't like something someone posts here doesn't mean it's not good food.

Do you like collards too? I love all greens, but I think collards are my favorite.
OP, your greens look delicious

You should give beet roots+stems+greens a try. Can't get enough of it!

That looks fantastic. I love greens of any sort. Collards may be my least favorite, but i still love greens. Mustard is #1 for me. But this looks fantastic. I typically do my greens with some salt meat, which probably isn't great for blood pressure.

We don't all have a palate of a 5 year old.
