Heading to San Diego next week for several days. Any recommendations? Needs to be casual as there will be kids and vacation attire involved.

Get carne asada burritos at any of the taco shops (Albertos, Robertos, Rojelios, etc.).

Crack Shack for chicken sandwiches. Huge kid-friendly patio.

I would also add the chicken tacos at any of these places. Fried corn tortilla w pulled chicken and a parmesan type cheese that is amazing.

If you want to go off the beaten path, try La Posta De Acapulco’s in Hillcrest (10-15 minutes from downtown). The best tacos and carne asada fries IMO.

Try Rubio's Coastal Grill for fish tacos and other killer seafood dishes. It's fast food but delicious.

The Taco Shop on Pearl St. in La Jolla has great authentic Mexican street style tacos including cactus. Always a long line.

Also, the Shack Bar and Grill on La Jolla Blvd. is a dive bar with amazing food. The fish tacos are grilled and the portions are huge. Good cocktails as well. We were just there and there was some chick rolling a joint at her table, so there's that.

George's at the Cove on Prospect is a must go to. The food is good to very good but they have a good drink selection and the view is to die for.

Lots of good choices in the Gaslamp District. Just do a yelp search.

Total negligence for leaving this out but definitely hit up In n Out.

Also, the Shack is fine for kids. They have a separate dining area from the bar.

Finally, check out the Promiscuous Fork in La Jolla. Really awesome food and eclectic menu.

Waste of time. You can get it in Texas too, so even more reason to skip.

California Burrito is pretty amazing. Sort of a divey burrito chain but it is legit good and cheap. They make their own tortillas I believe.

Make sure to get some fish tacos.

Are you assuming "God's Country" is Texas? In n Out is our first stop whenever we go to CA. Love it.

I wandered into this place after some brewery hopping one night. It was a god send. So damn good. The Firebird FTW.

On the same "shack" train of thought, Garlic Shack is freaking awesome as well.

However, it isn't really in the touristy area where OP will likely be staying. I stumbled on it between meetings out in a more residential area. Awesome food though.

Bump

I’ll be in San Diego for a week. Looking for some higher end places. Fresh seafood and obviously some great Mexican joints. Hitting the Padres/Giants game tonight.
