Sabra is recalling classic hummus because of possible listeria contamination. See LINK for types.

If you're in Baton Rouge, sounds like now is a good time to try Ruth's (a local product) instead.

Or, let's start posting hummus recipes.
I've got a bag of garbanzo beans just sitting in the pantry.

Where would one find tahini paste? And in what part of a store?

Most large supermarkets. And, of course, at Whole Foods (near the peanut butter, almond butter, etc). Any Middle Eastern market.

I know of at least 5-6 listeria recalls in the last 3 weeks.

What is going on with quality control?

Here's my recipe. Do not use canned garbanzo beans. The preservatives give them a weird flavor and it's a lot more expensive. 1 can of beans can range from $1-2. A bag of dry beans is usually $1 and equivalent to 4 cans.

Ingredients

4 Cloves Garlic

4 cups garbanzo beans

Water from beans (as needed)

1/3 cup tahini

2 lemons - juiced

1.5 tsp kosher salt

1/3 cup greek yogurt (full fat)

1/4 to 1/2 cup olive oil (your preference)

Optional - Peppers, herbs, or whatever else you want to throw in. Jalapenos and other green chili peppers go really good in hummus. Habaneros aren't bad either. Leave the seeds in if you want it really hot.

Soak and boil your beans according to package instructions. Add all ingredients to food processor and let it go until hummus is the consistency that you like. Add water if to thick. Add yogurt if you like it creamier. Add other ingredients if you want more lemon flavor, olive oil, salt, etc.

The stuff is too easy and better to make at home than to ever buy in a damn store.

On the easy scale: placing container in grocery cart > making anything

Do you only eat frozen dinners for every meal?

You are super sassy today. I like it.

Just made a fresh batch. Didn't have tahini. Took 5 hours from start to finish.

I usually see it near the Jewish foods.

Gris,
By itself, what does tahini taste like? What's it adding to hummus?

What I made tastes good. Is it a texture component?

It's similar to peanut butter, which can be subbed in a pinch.
