God damn, that is one delicious friggin' IPA (Pliny the Elder). Blind Pig gives it a run for its money though!
I've had Pliny and Damnation in the past and thought both were very good, but getting it from the source, all I can say is WOW!
Also had about four of their Belgian style brews other than Damnation, all top notch. Vinnie Cilurzo has one seriously fantastic operation. Major props to those guys. I wish we could get their beer here!
I ended up buying 3 dozen bombers of their stuff and shipping it home to myself. Hoping it arrives today in time to drink a few while watching the game!

Yeah, their brews are solid. I still put them in the middle of the pack compared to Oregon brews but that in noway is a knock on them. I enjoy their stuff. Give their Damnation beer a try. It's very good.
ETA: Never mind, you already have tried that beer.

I know you're a big Racer 5 fan, as am I... I got to Bear Republic and tried a lot of their stuff as well. Racer X is a really, really nice beer. I will say though that the RR IPAs were superior.
Moonlight had some really nice offerings as well, but you'd probably think they were all malt bombs.

homer!
northern cali is no joke when it comes to beer and rivals oregon.
to call russian river middle of the pack is stupid, pliny is one of the top beers in america.

I think you're biased, bro. I've had a lot of what Oregon has to offer, and there's some top notch stuff up there, but I'm not sure I agree with that sentiment. Taste is part of what makes the world go 'round though, right?

If someone breaks into your house in the next couple of days, you can blame it on this thread!

you sob! I drank a Temptation the other night. damn fine stuff. Their IPA's are my favorite. One day I'll get to try Pliny the Younger.

I'm definitely a homer. One of my family members is a founding member of S.N.O.B.
N. California definitely puts out their fare share, don't get me wrong. They just don't do it in the capacity that Oregon does. We have some extremely small breweries here that produce fantastic beer that never even leave the state (don't produce enough).

Unfortunately, the timing wasn't right for me to sample any Pliny the Younger, but I'm looking forward to the opportunity!
There was also a pub in Napa that had a triple IPA that was pretty damn tasty... I forgot the name of it though (I was pretty waxed in all fairness), but it was something I'd never heard of...

I am looking at four(4) beer bottles:
1. Russian River Redemption
2. Russian River Sanctification
3. Ninkasi Spring Reign
4. Jevar Pilsner (Germany)
Sadly all of them are empty. I will settle for St. Arnold Oktoberfest for my beverage for the game.

FYI russian river fans.
just ordered several russian river plinys, blind pigs, damnations, supplications, consecrations, and redemptions from blackwell's in san francisco. i don't work for them and haven't gotten my beer yet [scheduled to arrive monday] so i can't even vouch for them yet. i just got a tip from beer advocate. i ordered 10 beers at 60 dollars and shipping [fed ex] was 23.
if you guys are able to have beer shipped to LA, and are looking for russian river, check out blackwell's. in fact i got this email from blackwell's today:

The Russian River Temptation (375 ml, $12.) is back! The latest release of Temptation, a sour “wild ale” aged in chardonnay barrels, just hit the floor yesterday. This is one of the best sours on the market—check out Ratebeers 100 point reviews! There’s no limit, so you can stock up on it!
Other new releases. . . .
Nectar Ales from Paso Robles has just released their limited release Black Xantus Imperial Stout (22 ounce, $15.), and unfortunately is it limited to one bottle per customer. This 11% abv beer is aged for six months in bourbon barrels, and then infused with coffee to make it a one-of-a-kind, over-the-top Imperial Stout to remember.
More Glazen Toren beers are rolling in, and the Glazen Toren Saison d’Erpe-Mere (750 ml, $17.) has just come into stock. This is one of the top funky Belgian Saisons out there. (Fantom is a personal favorite, but this will do for now.) Arriving next Tuesday we have a very limited number of magnums of the Glazen Toren Saison (1500 ml, $40) and the Glazen Toren Canaster Winterscotch (Scotch Ale, 1500 ml, $40) coming in as well.
A new one for us from the Knee Deep Beer Company in Belmont, California is the Tanilla Vanilla Porter (22 ounce, $6.). If you are tired of coconut in your porter, this may be the way to go. 6.3% alcohol, 30 IBUs, and, yes you guessed its, lots of vanilla.
Fresh Pliny the Elder will be in stock next week, and the limit will unfortunately still be six bottles per customer. Place your order now!
