I understand what you mean, and I didn't have any idea of this going in. I have never been to the NOLA location. There are definitely places that "just happen to serve food" and it's more of either 1) watching sports or 2) atmosphere. I will say, with the second option, these places usually do better in an area where you can walk around (NOLA). Having an "atmosphere" type place without any surrounding personality with regards to the location seems forced. Just my thoughts!

Rum House in Nola is a shitty place to watch a game. They have 2 TVs behind the bar you can't really see from the tables and a couple in the corners, and they're usually just on sportscenter or the golf channel. You have to ask to put a live game on, and they usually drag their feet about it.

Don't they also have one of those awful projection TV's with the hanging screen that moves around in the slightest breeze?

I commented last night that I thought it was surprising how few TV's they had, and that they were setting out to be noted for a fun place to go and socialize with friends.

Do you need a lot of TVs to socialize with people?

I don't think La Casita or Juans offer the same food as Rum House. Those places offer your standard carnitas, chicken, and pork tacos. I don't ever get that at Rum House. I get the more exotic taco offerings at Rum House. Rum house is not in the same category as your standard tex mex.

Plus, Juan's salsa blows.

Have yet to go to Casa Barrega.

I am saying that because they DON'T have a lot of TV's they are trying to be an "atmosphere" place, not centered on sports watching, but rather centered on people actually talking to one another!

I've been to the one in Nola. I really like it. Always get their 2 taco and 2 sides thing for $10. Add an app and cocktail to that and you're looking at around $20-25 per person. It's a bit pricey but the food is good and the drinks are top notch, imo

I've been to the one in BR twice since it's opened. Great drinks, but food was really nothing special. I've tried the majority of the tacos; some were really good and some (lamb and scallop come to mind) weren't good at all.

Besides the chicken, where do you think Rum House sources these exotic meats?

I'm all good on lamb from the Rum House.

I always wonder about people that "really like" Rumhouse.

I mean...they have to have extremely low standards, or are really young.

They aren't exotic but they aren't on the menu at these places you mention. Your places offer standard tex mex fare tacos

It's a fun place to get drinks and have decent food. What is there to wonder about?
