Who has had any from here so far this season? Plan on boiling a sack Saturday and was curious on the number of dead bugs in a sack. Got a sack last year and it had a few too many for my liking. Might have just got a bad sack then

Why not go to your local crawfish guy?
They're plenty of options if you're in S. La.?

I got a sack from them not long ago. They were good quality. The ones I got from Winn Dixie though were bad.

The Rouses near me has them at 1.88/lb. I haven't seen them cheaper anywhere else.

Same here in N.O.

Their flyer in the paper says $1.88 a lb. and limit of 2 sacks per customer.

I got a sack from them last year and they were good with few dead and mostly same size crawfish.

We got two sacks from Rouses by LSU campus a few weeks back and they were pretty good size. We were all shocked that they came from Rouses. Honestly we didn't have that many dead ones.

Not sure where you are located, but I just ordered a sack for Saturday from Schaefer's in Bucktown on Lake Ave. and they were $1.90 a lb. if paying cash.

I've gotten many sacks from them in the past and have never been disappointed.

Not sure if you are in BR, but I went to Berthelot's Crawfish Co. in Addis on Sunday and got the best looking sack of crawfish I've gotten in a few years. They had just gotten in from the ponds. There were 2 dead ones when it came time to boil.

DO NOT BUY. Know a college kid that worked at Rouse's and said they'd leave the bag out in the sun for hours. Most were dead by the time they sell them. Same with boiled. Don't buy them.

I don’t understand how or why in the world I can always buy crawfish cheaper in Mobile. I paid $1.75 LB at R&R on the causeway last Sunday and had the option to buy pond or spillway. For $2.00 they would run them down a conveyor belt and pull the dead ones out along with all the debris and basically purge them for you. I opted to just pay the $1.75 and clean them myself. They were huge and maybe had 10 dead ones in the 35 LB sack. That truck delivering these crawfish are driving right by everyone down I-10/12. How or better yet why are they cheaper? It’s always been this way since I moved over here for my job. You have transportation cost in fuel, labor, it honestly does not make sense. I would think we would be paying more over here.

Where you from?

Leblanc's in Des Allemands has them for $42 a sack. I bought 3 sacks last weekend. 2 were 33lbs and 1 was 32lbs. They were beautiful crawfish, very lively. Only had a couple dead ones.

Are they getting them from Louisiana? I think Alabama does have some crawfish production.

No. I drive right by that place on the way to work twice a day. There is a refrigerated truck delivering there pretty regularly and they are always from Louisiana. I wondered the same thing and pulled in and looked closer to make sure. There is another seafood market by the corporate office called Mudbugs on Government Street and I see the same type of trucks from Louisiana. My largest customer base is with the Vietnamese door and shutter shops so I’m always over in Baton Rouge at least 5 days a month. I figured when I was transferred to the corporate office 7 years ago I would have to pay more for crawfish. 80% of the time I pay less or around the same as all of the best crawfish suppliers in the Baton Rouge, New Orleans or North Shore areas. As a business man I don’t understand the economics of it. When I sell a truckload of lumber that delivers to Baton Rouge it cost our company $700 to run that truck.

Got 10 sacks last Sunday - they ranged from 31-37
Came out to 1.32# - size varies from small/medium to large but can’t beat that price.

For that price I’d gladly take a mixture of sizes.

Is this guy just selling them on the side of the road? If so, how often is he there?

If I was buying 3-4 sacks it would be worth the drive from N.O., but not really just for one sack to save $15.

But good to know. Thanks for the heads-up.

So apparently they are not hurting that bad. Called a couple of places looking for 1/2 sack for 2 adults and 2 kids. They won't break a sack and I am not spending 4 hours peeling fish after the boil including cleanup It seems like they wouldn't turn away business of any kind.
