They offered you a free meal on the spot which you refused. There's your future meal and you turned it down.

why would you want a future meal from that place if they have roaches in the food? file a formal complaint with the state food and drug bureau and tell everyone on facebook and TD the name of hte place so nobody makes the mistake of eating there.

Before you guys get too upset,

Better check to see if the roach was within FDA limits for insect content

don't believe me? Check out allowable fruit fly content in Golden Raisins.

Raisins, Golden

Insects and insect eggs
(AOAC 969.42 & MPM-V76)

10 or more whole or equivalent insects and 35 Drosophila eggs per 8 oz.

Actually, they should have reworked the meal by cutting away part of the roach, removing it and handing you the remainder back. Then as you stared blankly at the waiter, he would (in Chinese) say

"Crazy round eyed guy complains for receiving extra meat in fried rice!"

I suspect every restaurant deals with the control of roaches and other pests. Occasionally, rarely I would hope, something can happen in a kitchen that turns out large quantities of food. Although, I have to say a roach actually making into a takeout dish without being discovered by kitchen is a little disconcerting.

ETA. When I was in law school, a buddy of mind and I were having pizza and beer at the Fleur de Lis. He actually had the remains of a roach (or some such insect) pour out of his beer bottle. I forget who was behind the bar but they shrugged and just handed him another beer.

well I agree with that. I worked in a restaurant for seven years and one thing I never saw was a roach in the food itself.

that being said I did see bandaids, hair, unknown food like particles, soap, plastic, and even a tooth. well the tooth didnt make it to the table thank goodness.

Every restaurant kitchen has roaches. Let me repeat that. EVERY restaurant kitchen has roaches.

To be in takeout Chinese, shite happens. Take it back, refund, move on. To expect more is just being greedy. Go slip and fall in Wal Mart for extra cash.
