This place was terrific and its a real shame that it closed. This corridor was really making some noise five years ago but the revitalization efforts died a quick death. Really sad to see this place go. He should reopen Casa Borrega in downtown Covington.

"Another restaurant and local music venue has closed for good. Casa Borrega, the Mexican restaurant, bar and music spot at 1719 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd., poured its last margaritas Friday night (May 6) and has permanently closed, said proprietor Hugo Montero.

He said the decision to close the Central City restaurant was the result of a number of factors, but declined to elaborate."

“I’m just very proud to be part of this community, we were very blessed with all the years we’ve had,” Montero said. “I just want to thank the community and all our friends and customers.”

The food was good, but was so far down the list when thinking of places to eat. Couldn't go after dark either.

Shame all the money sunk into that stretch that no one will visit.

They really wanted to make that stretch the next Feret and it didn’t work out.

He should reopen in a better neighborhood. Great place.

To be fair though the area around there was experiencing monumental gentrification. Unfortunately the non-gentrifying areas decided to infiltrate the gentrifying areas and people/stores left.

Margs were alright but food was great. They need to open up shop on magazine towards Audubon. I always preferred El Pavo real anyway, but Casa Borrega was a close second

Food was good but it was a little prices for a quick lunch.

A few years ago, I really did expect to see parking meters on Oretha Castle but not no more apparently.

Place was pricy for what it was. Food was good - not great. But there was a fantastic energy to the place that I really liked a lot. Hugo was the type of gracious host that every person running a restaurant should aspire to be. Sad to see him shut down.

I only made it there once and was very good from what I remember. However, we ate dinner there at 5pm and parked directly in front of the building.

I would never go there at dark and/or park around the corner.
