I love my rice cooker to death, but I doubt I'd have one if I had to keep it on the counter all the time.

Rice is easy to make, but I prefer the rice cooker so it's one less item to check when I have multiple things cooking. You can steam in them also.
This is my thinking as well. If I'm doing multiple components to a dish, I can just set the rice and forget it.
Regarding brand. I have a TIGER and its been kicking for almost 20 years. When I buy another it will be one of these 2 brands.

I like the floral patterns.

Its a PLUS. And those are near the bottom of their product line. They have more advanced ones are great and have setting for different types of rice.

Worth it. No matter how skilled of a cook you are, you will never be able to make rice as consistent or as good as a rice cooker. Plus it cleans up a hell of alot easier than a saucepan with rice stuck to it all over the place. It shouldnt waste any counter space as it should be saved in the cabinet when youre not using it.

Clean up is a no brainer. Right into the dishwasher it goes with no handles to worry with. Once you buy one, you won't go back to stove top cooking. Just buy a small cheap version unless you're planning on cooking enough rice at once to feed the masses. See how you like the small one and if you feel the need, you can upgrade to a larger size. It's a pretty cheap investment.
This one is 15 bucks and has the warmer option.

With one of those 5 dollar coupons, BB&B puts out every other day, it's 10 bucks. There's a 5 cup for 20 bucks below. It's a no brainer especially if you're undecided.

I got a $20 Black and Decker rice cooker about 6 months ago and it's worth every penny.

I was 85% sure I was going to get one before I started the thread and was mainly looking for confirmation and any horror stories that would scare me away.

I use my rice cooker EVERY time I make rice. I have a big one for when I have company over and a small 3 cup cooker for when it is just the two of us. I also prefer the way rice comes out of a rice cooker. It can't be replicated on the stovetop. I was raised on rice cooker rice so that's how I prefer it.

Worth it. We are a family of 6.
It's only on the counter when I'm using it.
Mine was in the $25-$30 range at Target.

Who's the poster who does that annoying typing like that all the time? Billy Boy Grunt or something like that?
Posted on 1/7/15 at 3:32 pm to Gris Gris
Yeah that's him. He thinks he T S Elliot or something.
He hasn't posted in a while so I'm sure he's gonna start now that he's being mentioned
I guess he either doesn't realize or doesn't care how annoying it is but he thinks he's the next Gordon Ramsay
