Ralph and Kacoo's (False River)
My three all time favorites.
Wasn't Two Jacks across from Don's on Airline where Europe's was or was it on the same side of the street just a few buildings down? That's been a long time.
Bob and Jake's on Government.
Jake Staples The Place on Florida.

Peking Gardens - Was located in Corporate Mall, adjacent to where Hooters is now located. Great Chinese food, but the huge draw was their drinks. It was the place to go (along with the Happy Note) for pre-drinks to get your buzz started right. The Zombie would frick you up without you even knowing it. Drinking two was manly and they would not serve you three. The Mai-Tai was killer as well.
Mr. Wong and he started out on Florida around Little John. On the same side as Vernon's Hardware. Might be a Messican place now?
"No more Zombie for you. Your friend pull pants down. No more Zombie."
Lumm's Hot Dogs.
Phillies Chili
Wesley's in Broadmoor shopping center next to the theater and barber shop where I used to get my hair cut by a bookie named Rod.
Ollie's Trolley.
What was the name of the place at Highland and Airline that was torn down for the Shell Station? It was used as the restaurant that Dennis Quaid owned in Everybody's All American and John Goodman got killed in it. After the movie they knocked it down. It was empty for years.

When we were kids Mom would get Poboys and Pizzas from this place in the Broadmoor Shopping Center called Wesleys. I did not realize for many years, that they are the same folks that now own the Pastime............
I didn't read the whole thread when I posted.
Joe D's had chicken daily YA. Fried chicken po boys.
They also had the best pimento cheese sandwiches and on Friday they had the best egg salad sandwiches both for only a quarter then we thought the world ended when they went to fifty cents. My mom would buy dozens of them on Friday and we'd all eat them. Lot of times we would go around the corner to Goodwood Park and eat.
I miss Joe D's.

Fried chicken poboys at Joe D's ... now that brings back memories. They were great in the morning right before lunchtime, when the chicken was hot outta the fryer. They handed 'em to you wrapped in white or brown butcher paper, for white meat or dark meat. The funny thing was, you couldn't bite into a Joe D's fried chicken poboy cuz it was whole pieces of fried chicken, bones and all, in the bread. So what you really got was a portable fried chicken lunch. Good peppery chicken and the bread
soaked up the grease ... that was good eatin, real filling. The sides were good too, especially their french fries.

re: Joe Ds
Friends of mine bought it in the late 80s and ran it for a long time. I know it was alot of work and I had to lol when they told me the secret of their fried chicken.
Great boudin balls too. I liked being able to go behind the counter & cook them myself.

That place is at Buebonnet and Airline. It was originally the "new" Mike and Tony's, then Linnie's, then Bonanno's, then a long slow decline of Chinese buffets, now a financial advisor's office.

Two Jacks was a few buildings down from Europes on the opposite side of Airline Hwy. The owner of Europes moved back to Italy. Do any of ya'll remember a small Chinese restaurant almost down to the end of Donmoor back in the late 70's and early 80's before that area became Mall City? We used to eat there once a week. I think that the owners were related to the guy that owned Chinese Inn.

The nice silver haired lady would run that crew all day long.
Yeah, she did a great job, and also made it a helluva lot easier placing an order, and their food was great. I think the owners were dismayed at all the new fast food Chinese restaurants that were opening up in those new strip centers which seem to pop-up overnight, and said screw it, and sold the place..Again, China Express on Coursey now has some of the nastiest food I've ever eaten.
Also, the Chinese joint where the Walmart grocery store is on Coursey, is now under their 3rd or 4th name change..WTF is up with that? No way would I eat there.

No it was at Highland and Airline and they tore the building down after the movie was made.
