It's perfectly fine for $45 champagne. Like someone else mentioned, it does live off the label.

I'd much rather just be a peasant and drink lamarca if I'm not drinking Dom or something.

Monmousseau makes a sparkling wine/champagne that is pretty damned good and only about $12.

For champagne? It absolutely does relate to the price, but I never said only. The price of champagne is directly related to the amount of work and attention to detail goes into the bottle. Nicer stuff is hand turned in the cellars for instance. It takes a long time. Part of the reason why the current vintage of Dom is 2009.

Dom Pérignon is always a vintage champagne but a vintage is in the neighborhood of 5 million bottles. There certainly is no shortage of the stuff which is a mystic they like to cultivate.

If you want a truly good Dom Pérignon search out the rose’ which isn’t hard to find but a much better champagne in my opinion.

I don’t buy much but I do buy a few California sparkling which can be very nice. I have a 2010 Williams Selum Reserve I’ll probably open tomorrow.

They don't try to act like there's a shortage

They want Dom everywhere. We've even started putting box toppers on them for certain holidays or events, like graduation caps.

Rose is even more expensive because it's harder to make.

We'll be drinking out of one of the cases of cava I had shipped back from our trip to Spain earlier in the year. Llopart is a damn fine bottle of bubbly wine.
