Awesome man, i appreciate it. I was just looking at the menu at Solbar. Looks interesting. We have tastings and tours at Hourglass and Jones the first day. Decent places?

I looked into going to French laundry in May and they were closed for renovations (wouldn't have gotten in anyway)

I like Sonoma better than Napa. The tastings are cheaper ($10 vs $25 or so) and the town is nicer.

I had a great meal at the culinary Institute's Greystone restaurant. It's also a beautiful setting.

Frank Family

Tres Sabores

Tres Sabores is awesome, real small winery with some great wines, extremely friendly owners they have picnic grounds, horse shoe games and fruit trees that you can pick and eat right off of.

Frank Family has some of the best wines in the valley imo, we were lucky enough to meet the owner one of the times we went, he was sitting outside drinking wine telling stories, really down to earth and easy to talk.

Short drive south to Tra Vigne in St. Helena. The wood fired dungeness crab is killer. LINK

Family and I went to La Toque in Napa for dinner a couple years ago when we were out there for Don Chowder's wedding.

It was 5 courses and you had a couple options for each. We didn't do the tasting that accompanied it, but a couple of those dishes are still some of the best things I've ever tasted.

Food in general was great out there.

We are going to Napa in July. Actually, staying in Calistoga and also visiting Vincent Arroyo among may others! How does the shipping of wine back to Louisiana work? I was told that you couldn't ship back home? Any tricks I need to know?

Of course you can ship wine back. Usually you can have it done by the concierge where you're staying

There are a lot of wine shipment places in the town part of Napa.

We've used buffalo shipping post a couple of times because we always forget and they are the only one open on Sunday's. Never had an issue with them, wine arrived fine and had not turned into vinegar in the heat. The wineries will ship your purchases back for you too, but a lot of them will not ship to southern states in the summer months due to the heat concerns.

Calistoga is the northernmost town in the Napa Valley. Maybe 10-12 minutes to St. Helena, 20-25 minutes to Yountville, depending on traffic. On weekend traffic on Hwy 29 gets bonkers, but mostly headed north, until the afternoon, when they head back south.

If you're going to Oakville, hit Plumpjack. Good stuff there. It's just a little down and across from Silver Oak on the Oakville Cross Road.
