I am looking for a good, reasonably priced vacuum sealer. I am hoping to greatly reduce the amount of protein we waste by vacuum sealing leftovers and heating them back up using a sous vide. TIA

I got the Foodsaver V4840 when it was on sale, and it has been fantastic.

maybe i expected more, but I haven't been overly satisfied with my Foodsaver. It works well on really dry products, but food with any moisture like fish filets just doesn't get a really good seal IMO.

I'd go with a chamber sealer.

Chamber Sealers Ebay

I'm pretty close to rolling the dice on one of these 300$ ones on ebay.

the LEM one is close to a thousand andworks like a dream.

Yeah, it seems to suck the moisture up toward the top of the bag and it's spread around and lets go more easily.
I've found that it works better to pre-freeze things like this for a little bit before sealing them.

I mean any of them are going to struggle with excessively wet foods, if you're trying to suck air out of one end. I haven't had any issues though with it. Usually pat dry whatever i'm sealing and have had no issues. I've never had any issues with the actual seal that it has created.

Also, which foodsaver do you have? There are a lot of them.

For the money, the best deal is to buy the cheapest foodsaver you can find and run it until the wheels fall off. I picked up a foodsaver fm2000 for under $40 on Amazon a few years back and use it often.

chamber sealer.

really good if you are sealing items multiple times a week or using for business purposes

Not sure it is worth the price if only using the machine on occasion.

I wanted one but was paralyzed by the bewildering number of models with huge range of price. Didn't want buyer's regret, so never became a buyer.

Then they had a basic one for like $25 after Christmas one year in an ad on Deadspin (RIP).

I bought it, and it's still running strong. The small size is a plus. No complaints. I double-seal most things just in case.

Go with the VacMaster VP215...about $799 at webresturant .com....my wife chewed my arse about this purchase back in 2018 when I bought it....today with this Cornavirus ..she is vacsealing portions of all these big meals we are cooking giving them our kids and her mother... now she says that was actually a good purchase after all!

I wanted the Avid Armor vac sealer after watching some videos and reading about them on a few boards. The $300 one is sold out right now, but they still have some of the more plasticky (if that's the right way to describe it) one on their website for $179. I've had 3 Foodsavers and I think I'm done with them.

Chamber vacs are the way to go and you’ll use it all the time because it’s so much quicker and easier.
