I wonder with some of these rankings if the people that ranked them have even been to all of them.

I agree. I can't take anyone seriously who thinks Flemings>Ruths. Maybe it's NOLA hate.

How in the H E double hockey sticks does a chain restaurant rate above these other great LOCAL restaurants?
Is it because you live closer to it?
Go to it more often?
Have better luck getting a reservation?
I just don't understand.

.......Waiting for an explanation, fellas.

P.S. Game time in thirty!

#1-Flemings- A good friend of mines Grandmother, is the Fleming this place is named after. FYI
Thats not the reason I have it #1, I do like it the best.
#2-Ruths
#3-Ruffinos
#4-Mansurs
#5-Jubans-Got an invite to eat here next week.

All are real close, kind of hard to choose between the 5.

1) Ruth's (in a landslide here-third best place in BR)
2) Mansur's (spotty but improving)
3) Juban's (I always feel cheated-now I just eat at the bar)
4) Flemings (too corporate)
5) Ruffino's (never a good meal. Get sucked in once a year)

Weird, I know of someone who's Grandmother was named after, this place..

.

Also, there's a Fleming wine label (same family as the restaurant), never had the chance to try the wine though.

Um... I know the guy you're talking about. The restaurant wansnt "named after her", she bought the restaurant back in the late 70's, I believe and added her name to it. She's long since sold the restaurants and the buyers allowed it to become franchised. The BR location, I believe, is the 3rd store opened in America.

To the list, I cant really compare the restaurants, as it is really comparing apples to oranges it seems. Trying to say that a steakhouse is better than an Italian restaurant is silly. It's better to just say which is the better genre of food.

Best Steakhouse: Ruth's Chris. This place hasn't changed in years and continues to deliver consistency in their steak. Fleming's is way too corporate and seems like they found a mold that worked and opened a new location in Baton Rouge (which is what they did.

Best Italian: Gino's. With the tomato sauce being hand-made by Mama Marino every single day, it's hard to beat the Lasagna that brings me back to that restaurant every time. Ruffino's I can't stand. I think their tomato sauce is a little too bland and they use an Italian-style bologna in many of their dishes.

Best Seafood: Mansur's. I put Mansur's here over Jubans for a few reasons: Many of the dishes from Juban's actually came from an executive chef named Chris Neely who left Mansur's and was hired at Juban's. This is why the Mardi Gras Crab at Mansur's is the same as the Hallelujah Crab at Juban's. Mansur's just had it first. Also, the Chargrilled Oysters at Mansur's are just too hard to beat. Lastly, I enjoy the atmosphere a little more at Mansur's. With a live pianist in-house, it just sets an amazing mood.
