RIGHT!! Never give up hope!
No - didn't think they would. Huge fan, but didn't ever think they'd be in the final two. YYYEEESSSS!!!!!
Well, that's blown, but still I agree. Let's say two-hitter.

Yes - he deserves props. I was not confident going into today's game and he's been a very pleasant surprise. Nothing I love more than being proven wrong by these awesome players.

The announcer said his dad was trying to video his at-bat this time and I said, "Yeah, like that will happen again." I WAS WRONG!
Thanks! And yes, LSU is a WIN!! I'm calling it now.

Chelsea's, Stroubes, Brandt's Maisonette
My husband just came home with a $30 carton, fairly small (seems smaller than a half-gallon tub) of birthday cake gelato, fresh-scooped from Latte Y Miele...and it is worth every penny! The best valentine's day gift ever! A bit of a splurge, thoughtful, and frankly, it tastes like pure decadence.

Just wanted to share this in case anyone out there was trying to come up with a V-Day gift idea. My husband is no Don Juan, so this really took me aback.

Ivars-Am I missing something??

I live here (overpass) and I see sour beer and bad food. People say they have good wings and pizza. Yes?

I really appreciate Roul's burger

Roul's sux - cooked to a crisp (i.e., not in any way juicy) and not available unless as part of a combo. I don't get the "Roul's mystique."
I love parrains. Martini-do you live in that area?

I know the guy is making money somehow, but I support it until something better comes along. Getting people drinking downtown is good.
I don't get the voodoo hate. I like the place better than Sonny's.
These are awesome! Thanks for sharing them. I love the one of the whole field at twilight...a beautiful moment (surpassed only by the moment Coleman nailed that last pitch!).

I eat a lot of cheesesteaks.

I have to throw a very close vote to Philly Me Up.

I like the staff at PMU a bit more. SOP has pimped on this board in the past and they have posted negative against PMU elsewhere-typical Philly move by the way.

I also prefer provolone to cheez-whiz, so what do I know.

re: Rank these Restaurants

1) Ruth's (in a landslide here-third best place in BR)
2) Mansur's (spotty but improving)
3) Juban's (I always feel cheated-now I just eat at the bar)
4) Flemings (too corporate)
5) Ruffino's (never a good meal. Get sucked in once a year)

Which Celebrity Sports Star at Acme?

Posted by K-nizzle on 6/6/09 at 10:31 pm
I was at Acme Oyster House tonight after the game (LSU/Rice). A table of four at the bar included a guy who looked a bit like Jamarcus Russell but shorter (as in maybe 6') and people kept coming up to him and shaking his hand. Who was it? Anyone know? I asked the tneders and they were mum (which is good on their part, I guess). I just want to know! He left a mega tip (as a "mega" tip).

Correct. Marylanders do not boil crabs.

I am grilling some shrimp. Do I peel them or grill with the shells on?

Where to Get Quail Eggs

Posted by K-nizzle on 4/19/09 at 10:54 am
Does anyone know where I can find fresh quail eggs in Baton Rouge? I haven't seen them at Whole Foods or Fresh Market, but maybe I'm just missing them. Going on top of a burger tonight...

re: Dingo's in BR.

Posted by K-nizzle on 4/18/09 at 6:40 pm to
Went to Dingo's for the first time today. We had the shrimp bong appetizer - good, but maybe not worth the price. It's basically a little glass fish bowl with a marinade in the bottom, complete with spices settled to the bottom, and a half of lemon sitting in the marinade with four skewers protruding from it, each with two grilled shrimp. The flavor was tasty, but the cost, $10, was not really worth it. Wouldn't get it again for that reason (flavor-to-cost-ratio).

I had a burger. I had ordered with cheddar, but no cheddar was on it. That said, there's something that set it apart from other area restaurants (in a good way). It had that lovely char-grilled flavor you get when something's grilled as opposed to fried on a skillet. It was good (think Burger King versus McD's). It was seasoned well, too.

My better half had the fish-and-chips. The fish (we asked the waiter what they use - mahi mahi today) was well-seasoned and had a crispy sear on both sides. Cooked to perfection, really. The fries were wedge-cut and tasted fine.

So, the food was good. A drawback - I initially ordered the turkey, brie, and fig spread sandwich. The waiter said, "The chef wasn't pleased with the brie that arrived this morning, so that's not available." Not sure about the explanation, but glad I wasn't served sub-standard brie, so it was the right thing for them to do. Kudos for that.

The place WAS spotless, like a previous poster said. Also, the flat-screen tv's featured Australian football ("footie") which was a nice, authentic touch.

We'll go back. I'd give it ***1/2 of ***** this first time around, not for reasons regarding food, but just the mix-ups with the ordering (no cheddar, no turkey and brie, etc).

I am jealous of the foods you have up there.

You live in a great place with great seafood.
