Demolition of the Restaurant will start in 2 weeks and the New Superior Bar and Grill/Steakhouse will be built on the existing parcel of land. This will certainly but an end to a couple of mediocre Mexican joints on Ambassador south of Johnston St, one on Camillia, one famous institution on Johnston thats been serving shitty Mexican food for 60 yrs and one steakhouse on Pinhook that better start acting like Ruth was still alive....new sheriff coming to town and gonna kick arse and take names....

Meh, I'm gonna die regardless. Might as well die fat and happy.

Thinking about Randol’s closing led me to check to see how Pont Breaux’s Cajun Restaurant (the old Mulate’s in Breaux Bridge) was faring, only to discover that it, too, has permanently closed. The owner died in May and his kids tried running it but decided to sell. It was never the same after the owner previous to this one died, and her kids sold it, too. Food was okay, but the bigger draw was the Cajun music and dancing. With both of those shuttered it is an end of an era.

I'm seeing more casual attire at nicer restaurants. Dim lighting can only hide it so much.

I didn't realize that's what was going there. I've been to the NOLA and Baton Rouge locations several times and didn't find it any better or any worse than any of the other Mexican places in that stretch. I did find it expensive, a steak quesadilla was $20.

Wait, you think people go to Lafonda for the food? That place is a Lafayette staple and isn't going anywhere anytime soon despite the shitty food.

It really is impressive the amount of Mexican on about a 3 mile stretch from Walmart to Costco.

La Hacienda
Pedros
La Pagua
Tampicos
Aztecas
Another La Hacienda
El Paso
Chuys
Agave
Superior

We hate Chuys, always forget about Aztecas, love going to Tampicos for nostalgia but they're limping along. Agave is meh but does decent business there. 2 Haciendas within a mile of each other seems a bit much.

It has gotten darker in there. Which is fine, but put some decent clothes on. Gym shorts, t-shirts and ball caps should not be allowed.

Any word who bought the place?

I heard Chimes is moving in.

ETA: I was wrong Chimes is going to be down the road. Superior was the right answer.

Cajun cooking is overrated, unhealthy and pales in comparison to the plethora of healthier and tastier options that were likely not available in Randol’s heyday.

I wish it was the old days so we could hang your arse in the front of randols like the soy boy you are.
