I'm traveling down next weekend for the UF game. What's a good place in Baton Rouge area I can stock up on Boudin & Gator meat to bring back to Bama?

They had both at Hebert’s Specialty Meats when I went last week.

If possible, take the short ride to Krotz Springs and get some stuff at both Billy’s and Kartchner’s. They’re both solid.

I got some boudin from Hebert’s today, and while it was good, the links were greasy as frick. I’ve never experienced that with boudin before in my life.

Not uncommon to find boudin with excess oil/grease, especially if you frequent different stores throughout SW LA. It’s the cooked down bi-product from fat off the Boston butt. Some meat markets skim the grease, others leave the boiled stock liquid “as-is”. The stock is then added to the rice, pork, liver mixture to keep boudin moist.

I’m talking specifically about the outside of the casing before opening. They were so slick with grease that they were hard to handle. It’s not a deal breaker, just not something I have never experienced before.

Ronnie's would be my first choice for boudin, 9830 Florida Blvd. Baton Rouge, LA 70815, 225-216-7151.

Hebert's Specialty Meats has decent boudin and it's closer in town. They also have an excellent prepared meats selection that you might want to stock your ice chest with.
Hebert's: 7949 Jefferson Hwy Ste A, Baton Rouge, LA 70809 (225) 532-3010
